I have two main issues:

  1. The appletv app isn’t as smooth and fast as plex. It is hard to convince my wife to switch when the user experience is not as good.

  2. No profile fast switch. Unlike any other streaming service (Plex included) jellyfin doesn’t offer a list of profiles on startup to select who’s watching. This is a huge issue for me, as my wife, son and I uses the same devices with our own profiles.

If everyone you text with are on iPhone anyway, there’s no logical reason to switch iMessage off and use SMS.

Never personally had any issues with iMessage (not sure which parts you think “suck” and are “unstable”).

80% of my contacts use iMessage, the rest use Signal.

This is a copy of an older comment of mine:

Everything is tagged and organized using Picard. I use a modified version of https://community.metabrainz.org/t/repository-for-neat-file-name-string-patterns-and-tagger-script-snippets/2786/156.

I've been meaning to write a guide for how it works. My current WIP script can be found here: https://gitea.baerentsen.space/FrederikBaerentsen/DataHoarder_scripts/src/branch/master/Picard.txt

My files is setup like:

~/Music/A/Artist/(YYYY) Title [Type - Format] [MusicBrainz ID]/[side] Title [length][Bandwidth].ext

eg:

/Music/Q/Queen/(1973) Queen [12 Inch Vinyl - FLAC] [1783da6a-9315-3602-a488-1738eb733a0f]
    /A1. Keep Yourself Alive [3m48s][320+ 48000KHz VBR 2ch].flac
    /B1. Liar [6m26s][320+ 48000KHz VBR 2ch].flac
/Music/B/Bruce Springsteen/(2019) Western Stars [CD - FLAC] [a50ffce7-0532-41a7-b85b-7d02f8c7af00]
    /01. Hitch Hikin' [3m38s][320+ 96000KHz VBR 2ch].flac
    /02. The Wayfarer [4m18s][320+ 96000KHz VBR 2ch].flac

if the album isn't a studio album, theres an extra folder. eg:

/Music/B/Bruce Springsteen/Compilation/(1996) The Lost Masters I_ Alone in Colts Neck (The Complete Nebraska Session) [CD - FLAC] [8531e427-495a-443a-8fc3-0dd2ef459c93]
    /01. Nebraska [4m27s][320+ 44100KHz VBR 2ch].flac
/Music/P/Phil Collins/Singles/(1981) In the Air Tonight [7 Inch Vinyl - FLAC] [e805dd53-9257-4c78-8bff-a95f0cdd767e]
    /A. In the Air Tonight [5m29s][320+ 96000KHz VBR 2ch].flac

I have special categories for:

Compilations
Cover
Tribute
Singles
Live
EP

If an album contains multiple disks, there's an extra folder. Eg:

/Music/M/Michael Jackson/Compilation/(2004) The Ultimate Collection [CD - FLAC] [2d37b204-ed26-3795-9710-1514f0fd931a]
    /Disc 1
        /01. I Want You Back [3m00s][320+ 44100KHz VBR 2ch].flac

For soundtracks it's: ~/Music/Soundtrack/T/(YYYY) Title [Type - Format] [MusicBrainz ID]/[side] Title [length][Bandwidth].ext

eg.

/Music/Soundtrack/L/(2001) The Lord of the Rings_ The Fellowship of the Ring - The Complete Recordings [Digital Media - FLAC] [cad73ae7-5966-4de1-bad4-4a603891fd27]
/Disk 1/01. Prologue_ One Ring To Rule Them All [7m15s][320+ 48000KHz VBR 2ch].flac

Been using this for 3+ years and it's solid.

I'll try and make a better write up at some point and share my script.

This setup also works flawlessly with Plex + Prism. I run Picard in a docker container and access it over web, so it can run on my headless Debian server.

This is definitely not an EU wide issue. I’ve lived in a couple of different countries and always had the option of using my own hardware with static IPv4 and recently also static IPv6 addresses and with no port restrictions

I remember going to the Apple Store and picking up Snow Leopard on a DVD. Good times.

I really wish they would have stuck 32/64GB storage or something like that on it, so the OS could boot without external reliance. Give the Pi0 8GB and it would be perfect.

I boot my Pi4 and Pi3 from SSD and it’s great but it’s clunky with the SSD and adapter.

I’m seriously considering a N100/N305 mini pc instead of my Pi.

Is there something specific in the GNU license you are missing in tmux’s current ISC license.

Saw it (70mm though) and was surprised how great it was, but I saw a lot of people complaining after and during intermission that it wasn’t what they expected.

I’m currently reading American Prometheus, which is the book it’s based on, and it is very much like the movie.

If you don’t understand American politics, which many (where I live) doesn’t, it is very hard to follow and understand.

Looking forward to finishing the book and rewatching it when it’s released digitally.

I definitely understand why it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and not a traditional Nolan film.

Denmark: 1gbps up/down with static IPv4 and IPv6 address for 105dkk ($15).

I can reliably get the offered speeds and the connection is unlimited. Pretty happy with that.

Where we lived in Florida we has Spectrum and they didn’t even offer Ethernet. Apartment only had WiFi with router access…

What I do is using OliveTin behind a reverse proxy (traefik with auth) on a Pi. I then have a button in olivetin that sends WoL commands through local network to turn in my ‘big’ server. You can probably run it without issues on a Pi0.

Alternatively, if you have a VPN to your home network, is using an app on your phone to send WoL commands when connected to the VPN. I have tested with both ‘Magic Packet’ and ‘Net Status’ on iOS through WireGuard.

Even Denmark has over 1000 sirens for warnings.

Been using prusaslicers default PLA profile with issues and this is my first roll of PETG, so I just selected the corresponding profile for that.

It seems so be super stringy whenever there’s movement and when printing the bunny (in vase mode) there’s lots of holes in the model.

I’m not sure if this is an issue with calibration (didn’t do anything when switching from PLA) or if the filament is wet.

So I’ve been wanting to replace my Pi4 (4GB) with an Optiplex for better support (x86 architecture), more ram, and a better CPU.

I’m hoping to get something that also supports intel quick sync for hardware decoding of h265 but it isn’t a major problem if it isn’t available.

What’s the minimum CPU to go for ? Is an i5 6500 fine ? Will that draw more power than let’s say an 8500? Will an i3 6200 be fine too? What about an i5 3400?

I have no idea if I should aim for something in the i5 8x00 range vs i3/5 3x00, when it comes to power usage vs compute output.

I’m not planning on running a full plex server, as there isn’t space for my 3.5” disks, but I would like to run Immich, Seafile, Audiobookshelf etc without a sweat and without using 10+ kWh a week.

I’m located in Denmark so European prices are always an issue with both hardware and electricity 😂

An 8GB ram + i5 6500 Optiplex is about $150 used.

Is the consensus to migrate to Forgejo or stay with Gitea? I’m running Gitea using docked and wondering how to migrate my setup to Forgejo, if needed.
