It absolutely depends on the kind of stress and how much im feeling it
As a delivery driver I ain't gonna poison anyone, but I don't like the idea of prison, or hurting people in general really

This may not be exact but I think it's close.
It's putting yourself in someone elses shoes
So imagine you see someone in the pouring rain. One may think "I'm glad I'm not out there" because that sucks. Understanding that it sucks for you means it likely sucks for them too.
While there is more too it, I'd say that is a decent approximation. A more mechanical way to think about empathy
That was a bit before my time but i remember some people saying the 2002 crash was in part an extension of the 80s recession as the 90s boom was partially due to the tech boom.
