@Fundamentallylazy @ThisIsAManWhoKnowsHowToGling
Okay, that chart is, like, 5 difference systems of measurement pretending to be one unit of measurement. The imperial system is bad, but it's not quite as bad as that chart.

That said, I like how most imperial units are at a scale that feel nice. Like, most things you measure in feet are no more than 10 feet long, most things you measure in yards are less than a dozen yards long. Also, it's nice that at 0° F you know road salt isn't gonna work.

@Godric
So unfair that they keep typecasting black actors into playing black characters.

Are there FOSS alternatives to Roll20?

@dnd

I did a little googling and spotted Foundry Virtual Tabletop, but I haven't been able to explore many alternatives yet. Which ones are good?

@cjoll4
As in being an orc is against the law of the kingdom their character are in. #MCDM has dragonborn as being created by Good King Omin, who was deposed by the evil Lord Ajax. Ajax then placed a large Bounty on the head of every dragonborn.

#DnD DMs of the #Fediverse: Have you ever made a PC race illegal?

@dnd

I am feeling inspired by #mcdm_productions worldbuilding where all Dragonborn have a bounty on their heads, which was set by the current king. I would like to do something similar in mine with Orcs, but I'm not sure how to handle that lore-wise.

Why are all the #peertube instances #defederated from each other?

@nostupidquestions

Has there been drama over there? Is there a functional reason?

Also if you know any good channels, @ them below

New research shows that the insects flying around the streetlights are in fact in a living hell that we made for bugs.

@science

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-44785-3

Essentially, their tiny bug brains think the light is the sunset, so they keep turning to keep the "sun" at the same angle so they can go "straight." No matter how far they fly, they don't make any progress. They are trapped in this little hell we made just for them, not understanding why they can't get to where they are going.

What makes elves fun to play?

@dnd

Something I've been puzzling over with my #homebrewdnd stuff is about the classic #dnd elf. I don't really know what makes the Elves a compelling race to play. I'm thinking of changing them quite significantly for my campaign, but how far can I change them until they no longer hit the same buttons?

[-] Shkshkshk@dice.camp 6 points 6 months ago

this is honestly just solid #DMAdvice. But also bad phrasing on my part. My actual motivation for asking the internet was to see if there was going to be a surprisingly large chunk of people that would be turned off if [insert species here] wasn't included by default.

What dnd races are required?

@dnd

I'm making a new #homebrew #dnd setting. The mistake I felt I made last time was trying to devise an orgin from whole cloth for each playable race, which wasted a TON of time and energy while also confusing my players. So, herein I wish to ask: What playable races would you miss, if you joined my table and noticed their absence?

Humans, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblinoids, and elves will all stay, but I am not sure about all the others.

@akilou good to know about the Linux, I am a Linux user

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper #piracy is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't #torrent. So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while #degoogling myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

@mindbleach @Thisfox but didn't he also train the rats to do his bidding while in his own dungeon, and then reveal at the end of the book that he actually had a secret escape tunnel built into those dungeons when he made them (meaning he simply stayed in his dungeon because he chose to)

The Riddle of Steel

@dnd

I have an idea for a get-rich-quick scheme: using the Bessemer process to create massive amounts of high-quality steel. However, I'm sure my #DM has not given a single thought to this (because I know her) so I'm worried that this might give God fun #worldbuilding ideas to fuck with our party. How do I tell my group my plan, without having the industrialized slave company I know is on the other side of the map spontaneously develop a similar process?

The "nobody ever uses the bathroom in fiction unless something is sus" trope popped up in a Trail of Cthulhu campaign I ran back in high school. One of the PCs realized in a moment of Mythos-inflicted hysteria that he hadn't used the bathroom in 9 months, which led to him slowly realizing that he was in an episodic work of fiction and would stop existing when the story was over
