I clicked the "random" button on world of Warcraft character creation screen for a while

You can choose what, when, how much, and from whom, but you are still are still forced to do so. Choosing which person puts me at gunpoint doesn't make it voluntary

Not super long, but Consider Phlebas is pretty action packed. Two agents on opposing sides of a war trying to secure the same thing

Surface Detail, and The State of the Art by Iain M Banks. Been on a Culture bend recently. Excession is next on my list
