i hate to be that guy but i still cant see why not just use libretube at this point... newpipe has always been just a fair bit too far behind libretube in functionality for me to daily drive it. only reason i can think of is the removing from playlists bug, audio-only streaming bug, or piped inexplicably not working for you since ive heard some people are cursed like that lol. those are still pretty niche though. im honestly curious, what are some reasons you folks have picked one over the other?

Libretube was always unstable with watching videos due to they using piped to show youtube content. Newpipe didn't used piped. I always wanted something like Libretube with a backed of Newpipe

that's reasonable i guess, though im only really interested in YouTube frontends for the privacy benefits which piped helps greatly with. why not use something like revanced, or why not turn off the piped proxy in libretube?

[–] Jp404@ani.social 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Revanced just patched the exisiting YouTube app which is not FOSS. And i already turn off the proxy but it's not working.

fair enough! if it works, it works, i guess. the proxy disable doesn't seem to work for me either, by the way, i just checked! i guess it's probably a known issue.

Don’t have android. Invidious has been pretty nice though. It’s what I’m currently using.

oh LOL that's a pretty great reason!

Been waiting for channel tabs for a long time. In my mind that completes NewPipe and makes it perfect.

Where so you find images that you could get a link to? I don't understand that feature

The app now shows links to images that NewPipe fetches like thumbnails, avatars and banners. You can find them in the video descriptions and in the 'About' channel tab.

I'd be happy if it just stopped crashing constantly

You could lend a hand or donate some money, you know! I mean, they do provide it to you for free after putting up with all the shit that Google throws at them. You don't have to be grateful. But the least you could do is not insult someone's charity they pay with their personal time.

You could send crash logs and report the issue on github or wherever they host the code. That's definitely pitching in.

This is how professionals complain. Good show.
