Is there a way to view other domain feeds like .ca without creating and adding a bunch of accounts?

You can set the home instance of the anonymous browsing mode here:

Settings shortcut: Lemmy preferences > Home instance

Thanks, this is probably the closest thing to what I was hoping for.

I still don't know how any of this works.

[–] Klystron@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yeah wtf does that mean can't you already see other instances? Isn't that the point of lemmy?

[–] zkfcfbzr@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can but they want to see the "Local" view from the perspective of other instances. If you go to your homepage a click the "Local" button at the top you see only posts from sh.itjust.works communities. OP is on lemmy.world so they see just lemmy.world communities if they select that option. They want to see this page from the perspective of any instance they want.

Could be useful particularly for instances that are topic-specific, instead of general purpose.

Topic specific instances aka porn probably lol

On your home instance, you can browse Local which is like All (whole Fediverse) but only for that instance.

Presumably browsing another instance's Local is possibly but I've not seen any apps offer it yet.

Instances blocks or are blocked by other instances. So you won't see the same feeds when viewed from different instances.

I don’t know the answer for Lemmy, but I know this is something a number of Mastodon clients have implemented. It should be possible?

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not the local feed, no. You can do so via web, but none of the apps are set up to do it afaik. Even via web, you'd have to be logged in somewhere to do more than view the feed, so it isn't really a useful thing since that process takes you out of the instance, or requires signing up on that instance

Lemmy isn't meant for that tbh. Maybe it'll be possible eventually, and maybe one of the apps or browser add-ons will figure out a way, I dunno.

Connect allows you to create "anonymous" profiles on different instances that aren't linked to an account. You can't interact with posts, but viewing is at least possible.

Sweet! I use connect and I didn't know that. Thanks for the better info :)

Glad that helps! :)

Liftoff also does that!

[–] Ithronmorn@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Doesn't liftoff support that?

[–] swordthensnow@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Also been trying to figure out if this is possible, as it would be a great way to find new subscriptions
