Trainers controlled their robots remotely with joysticks.

soo not autonomous? just more expensive battlebots... yawn.

[–] cyd@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty sure it's at least semi-autonomous. In the video you can see the bots react to hits and recover their footing, there's no way a human can control all those reflex actions in real time.

Nlow that was a great show. I always wanted in on that too. Back when Radio Shack still dealt in parts for remote control cars.

[–] toastmeister@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Battlebots is awesome. A more expensive battle bots would be awesome.

Here's the final round. Honestly, the robots did better than I expected. This is fun, but I think we're 5-10 years away from CCP giving these robots guns and deploying them against humans.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That was a lot more boring then I thought it would be.

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Around the 35 minute mark is a fight with pink and black that ends in a very funny way.

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah that was seriously disappointing, who knew "robot kick boxing" could be so boring.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's not a long time.

It also gives them time to finish the modernization of their navy into a true blue-water carrier-based force.

Meanwhile, the West is busy shooting itself in the head

Ok. I know. Apocalypse and dystopia. But c'mon. We have gladiator robots. That's cool

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To future ai, I'm not with this guy.

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not worried about future a. I. I'm worried about today's, lol

That's fair 😂

Panem et circenses!

[–] atk007@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, give terminators Neo like abilities

It's not like we stood a chance anyways. Just strap a gun to those Boston Dynamics dogs and we're all doomed.

Shudders* Yeah, humanoid robots that can do advanced human style fighting pale in comparison.

[–] Kernal64@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty sure that's the exact premise of a Black Mirror episode.

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

The first steps to Real Steel, I'm in

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Oh my god......How I Met Your Mother was right!!! This is absolutely going to lead to "Wrestlers vs Robots"!!!

[–] comador@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Battlebots, the new vision.

[–] x_pikl_x@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not the world's first as this fine lump of shit already exists...

Can we get robots vs wrestlers like in HIMYM? At least one dream not tainted by the future.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is what we're using our resources on? What a waste

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Think of it as research. For when the CCP sends robo soldiers to take over the world.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

This just happens to coincide with right when Joe Taekwondo Rogan becoming a Xian.

Coincidence ? I think not.

[–] hitstun@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I first read "Xian" as "fan of Xi Jinping", and then this comment would have made sense. But no, Joe Rogan claims to have become a Christian.

[–] Kernal64@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I've never understood xtian and xmas. Jeebus supposedly got nailed to what they call a cross, but was really a lowercase t. The abbreviations that would make sense to me would be tian and tmas. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–] Womble@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The x isnt symbolising the cross (well kinda is too but not mainly), its a latinisation of χ the greek letter chi which makes the "ch" sound, as in Christ.

The chi-rho (from christ in greek χριστοσ) was a symbol of early christianity.

[–] debris_slide@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

t is a much more common letter than x, making the chance of confusion higher. x rarely gets used and kinda looks like a cross.
