Great.

My grandfather was a cabinetry guy/finishing carpenter… who for a hobby would build grandfather’s clock.

Now I have that image in my head.

Okay so I got curious and according to wikipedia:

"The Oxford English Dictionary states that the popular 1876 song My Grandfather's Clock is responsible for the common name "grandfather clock" being applied to the longcase clock."

Quite fittingly, the original name of that song was My Grandfather's Cock. Then the clergy complained..

The wikipedia is an interesting read too cause I think the author was like sitting in a hotel lobby and asked of the old broken clock there. And it was about two siblings I think were twins and when one died the clock was off, then the other died and the clock died.

Some rough memory but that's what I recalled was the story behind it.

The work on the facial expressions on this is immaculate as always with C&H.

It's a purely english thing. We don't call it "Grossvateruhr" sondern "Pendeluhr". Or "Kuckucksuhr" if it has a Kuckuck, a bird.
