Again. Why the fuck do people who claim to hate Elon still use Twitter/X?
That is the kind of "free speech" fElon wanted.
It's beyond me that after all this people are still using Twitter
Same with Facebook, instagram, WhatsApp, etc. but the response usually boils down to “I like to communicate with people on [platform] and since they won’t leave I can’t leave”
But Twitter now has a legit alternative that many have gone to. Unfortunate that's not mastodon, but still.
Worst part is people seem to believe they have to uninstall to use the alternative, by all means have both installed and slowly make the switch, your phone won't explode if you do that. I know I have to keep WhatsApp installed because some business only use that to take orders, but I can keep contacts somewhere else too.
I've tried to get away from WhatsApp. I've got the majority of my friends off it (at least when they communicated with me). But some people just will not leave due to familiarity/fear of change. I'm still working on them, but I'm pretty sure it's a lost cause.
You can only go so far. And cutting people off because they won't move away from something like WhatsApp isn't always feasible.
But I agree with you: I don't understand why people still use those platforms. I think it's because they don't keep up on things, or just don't care.
I hate whatsapp with a passion and only ever used it because everyone does. After a while i realised how dumb it is to do something because of other people and uninstalled it. I works pretty good, it's just for work i sometimes have to install it for one person who need to send something.
It's honestly terrifying how much of a grip whatsapp has. People like to make fun of the US for being stuck on sms and imessage, but at least we're not beholden to Zucc for our main communication
What's wrong with SMS?
It's insecure, can only handle small files, no features like read receipts or reactions. I can go on.

It's better, but in practice seems to have ended up entirely controlled by Google

Musk was talking all big about how this bullshit sucks and he wants to get rid of it. But he's just doing the same thing, on an even worse scale.
Oh, shadowbanning, or something like "Do Not Amplify", is against the DSA in the EU and thus illegal.

It's an ocean with a whole lot of toxic spills. The whole thing is polluted, but some of it is nearly clean while others are basically tar.
There's too many people doing too many things on that platform to condemn them all... We need to get most of them somewhere safer, but that's where they are right now
I mean, anybody using Twitter is ok with Elon Musk. You can give the excuse that people on social security have to use twitter, but otherwise there's really nothing necessary and there's no telling what is a bot or a bastard. Facebook and reddit were heading the same way before I dumped them for lemmy.

There's a lot of people still on Twitter for a simple reason that has nothing to do with Musk... Getting a population to relocate is hard. That's where they were before the takeover, that's where all types of public figures have to be to reach followers, and so that's where people go to interact with them
It's going to be a slow decline as alternatives slowly grow to critical mass, and eventually the dead platform will no longer be the place with the biggest reach to most intended audiences

I also don't use mainstream social media and I strongly encourage others not to. And I also face reality. People value their dooms scrolling too much to listen, only one person in my life has made a change, everyone else shrugs and says that's where their friends are
Any platform that allows Nazi speech is a Nazi platform, but not everyone on a Nazi platform is a Nazi. Social media grows and shrinks according to the network effect... Twitter will only completely die once another micro blogging platform becomes the default. We've seen it play out over and over

Why? Because the largest audience is still there! And yeah, the platform is controlled by a Nazi, and it boosts Nazis. It's a cesspool. People should migrate, to mastodon preferably. But they haven't, because it's a process that takes time and work
But labeling everyone still on Twitter a Nazi, or even a Musk supporter, is just putting your fingers in your ears and declaring the Nazis have won already

Still a shitty thing to do. As a site admin for millions of people, that person has an ethical and potentially legal obligation to not touch the internal database.

It's a good way to demonstrate that those 'free speech absolutists' are always full of shit. They just want to be able to say the N-word again, and they'll absolutely continue to do everything to suppress your speech, especially if it's something that threatens their money.
This doesn’t need demonstrating as most people have known that these fascist assholes are massive hypocrites for a long time.

I get the impression these people thought they were one of the good ones. Conspiracy theorist trumper should be able to be honest with their close friend Elon Musk. What they didn’t realize is that they are just a cog in Musk’s wheel. Any cog showing signs of resistance will just be replaced without a second though.
Yes, pretty dumb all around, but I am glad there are journalists documenting things like this. Musk’s empire needs to come down.

He's on the record as saying freedom of speech, not freedom of reach in regards to X.
It just means he won't ban you (but he'll do that too!) but he has absolutely no problem making it so it's almost impossible to see your content.
It is not clear what precisely happened to the three accounts that feuded with Mr. Musk in late December.
The number of views and user accounts are fraudulent. Botnets push right wing nonsense, until you piss of the Nazi Fuckwit. Then the bots stop promoting you and you fall into obscurity. They were never really popular, just the illusion of it like a concert in a stadium with cardboard cutouts of fans. "Sold out"
It's not even the bots; it's that the feed ranking on 𝕏itter is tuned based on Musk's whim, and he's most likely modifying it so that people dot get seen if they're not going along with his Nazism or cult.
