Boycott Amazon altogether.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Some Canadian outfit should try selling "11th Province" or "4th Territory" merch to us Oregonians and Washingtonians. We'd buy it.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 4 points 22 hours ago

replace with Never 51

[–] Justus@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Damn straight. Boycott walmart too!

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Y'all should probably ban Amazon

[–] Isaac@waterloolemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

Yea exactly, maybe I'm naive but I hope we've chosen Lemmy to eschew the tech oligarchy, including Mr bezos at Amazon inc

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 49 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Rule #1: companies have no ethics. Ever.

The only way Amazon will change is if it costs them more than it makes them.

The answer is to boycott them. Cancel your Prime subscription. Find other retailers, or do without. And do NOT go back as soon as they capitulate.

Companies need to understand that shitty behaviour will lose them customers for life.

[–] bingBingBongBong@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The answer is to force proper rules upon these US hyperscalers. Fuck them all, if they want to do "business" outside of the impoverished united states, they have to obey the rules of proper countries

Economists are the least moral people from any field. My economist friend agrees. They see money as a number, not as a resource people need to survive.

An economist may agree with the statement: "A starving honebee requires more honey to recover than it will produce in its life. Therefore saving it is a waste."

What the statement lacks, is context. Why is the bee starving to begin with? They eat nectar from flowers. So there aren't enough around. Humans are good at mowing their lawns and placing tiles in their gardens instad of anything useful. Another part is, where is their honey? The bee's life saving they use to survive winter? Who took it? The humans. And who has the audacity to define the life of a single bee by it's ability to produce honey? The human.

Now swap worker bee with working class, human with the rich, and honey with money.

"Oh these people require medical aid? As if their labour is worth the investment in ther health!"

Remember, any person providing a service to society, is a valuable person. Be it store cleric or garbage man.

How about Canadians stop using Amazon

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Way ahead of you...

[–] Crabhands@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I've ordered one thing this week, first in 2 months, was unable to find it elsewhere. Cancelled prime while I was there.

[–] CobraChicken3000@lemmy.ca 58 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does anyone need yet another reason to cancel their Amazon account?

[–] InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They'll even reimburse you in prorata your remaining subscription term. Literally no reason to wait before canceling right fucking now.

[–] ThePrivacyPolicy@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Argue enough and you can sometimes even get the full term back! I did! Really laid into them about their union busting and political donations.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Cool beans, I should do this.

Edit: I did this thank you for the suggestion, I was just going to let my account run out and not renew it. I have not used my account for about 2 months and just planned on not renewing bitting the bullet and not worrying about it but now I get $109 back!

[–] Montreal_Metro@lemmy.ca 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I’m ok with banning Amazon. I’ve already gotten all I needed from them.

[–] chuck@lemmy.ca 34 points 1 day ago

Fuck it it's the same crap as Ali express now why not just order from there and cut out the greasy American middle man

[–] Jozav@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

How strange that this is not seen as a punishable offense? I'm not Canadian, not familiar with sedition laws there, but there are countries where articles like these would put you in jail immediately.

Edit: Maybe someone with legal experience can explain it using this as reference: https://www.criminalcodehelp.ca/offences/crimes-against-authority/what-is-sedition/ ?

[–] Alabaster_Mango@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Wow, I figured we didn't have laws like that here. A few years ago we had a bunch of honkies drive on down to Ottawa. They had a website with their plans, and they literally said they were going there to overthrow the government. If you want here is a Wikipedia article about them

They got some house arrest

Edit: I have added a Wayback link to the MOU.

Not to worry.

Canada Unity worked hard to scrub it from their servers after the fact, claiming it was being used incorrectly (aka they realized they had published evidence on their website after having whipped up a frenzie about authoritarian rule (and fell silent just a couple years later when the Premier started doing actual charter and rights violations)).

They also did an award ceremony for the on the ground leaders; I guess if you instigate enough fights with homeless people in shelters and cause X billion in economic damage, you gather enough PPoints for a victory lap and some timbits.

But it's been archived.

[–] Nouveau_Burnswick@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For none Canadians, they are called honkies because they honked their horns for week, not because they are country bumpkins.

I'm positive there was some overlap, but still mostly separate circles in a Venn diagram.

[–] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

They also shit on people's lawns.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (8 children)

Although I disagree with the items being sold I wouldn't want to live in a country where you'd go to jail because of it.

[–] Jozav@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Better not join USA then ;)

We have a "charter of rights and freedoms" in particular: https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/csj-sjc/rfc-dlc/ccrf-ccdl/check/art2b.html. So as much as I dislike this kind of stuff they are still allowed to have it.

[–] AlienContact2049@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

See the thing is there are tons of these fucks who have badges….

There is a Rage Against the Machine song that comes to mind.

[–] engene@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 day ago

I’ve stopped using Amazon since November - also canceled my Prime. I realized how awful this company has made us become.

Remove it all. End your Amazon account already!

[–] cdegroot@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's just much easier to stop using them. Remember: its founder and largest shareholder (I guess) was one of the billionaire groupies standing behind Trumd during his inauguration. Canadians should not be shopping on Amazon.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I had planned on just stopping using them, it was going to be simple I was just going to bite the bullet and not renew my plan. Someone else suggested you can cancel your plan and get a refund for your remaining time, however it was suggested by someone else that you call and you lay on the union busting card and you can get the full year refunded. I did that now in 3 to 5 days I will get $109 credited back to my card, the number you call is 1 877 586 3230.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

largest shareholder (I guess)

You're good

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I’m on like year 7 of an Amazon boycott.

Amazon will not remove these I guarantee it. At best they’ll say it’s free speech and ignore the comments.

Boycott them. It works if we all do it.

(I know our boycotts are working because I just got an email offering a $300 4 night stay in Orlando with $100 USD restaurant gift certificate. The suite offered usually goes for $820. Keep at it!)

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago

I was going to ask them what they were requiring to redeem that offer, but you'd have to go to Orlando.

[–] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

I just got an email offering a $300 4 night stay in Orlando with $100 USD restaurant gift certificate.

To subscribe to Amazon Prime?

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago

Just cancelled my membership Fuck them

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I feel very strongly against us being the 51st state -- I'll literally lay down my life before I let it happen -- but I don't think this should be illegal or banned. If this bothers you, vote with your wallet.

[–] ramjambamalam@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Have you considered joining the reserves? I've been a pacifist my entire life but am wondering about it now.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even know we had reserves...

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

While I get where you are coming from it identify traitors. Like maga hats and confederate flags.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What the fuck…

Never misses a chance to grift I guess.

[–] brax@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

Nah man, keep the stuff up, but honeypot the fuck out of it so the orders are sold by shell companies owned by CSIS and the RCMP

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

They can keep that shit, I stopped using amazon. If I can't get it from a local store, I can live without it.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Canadians rightfully should.
