Hi! Sorry if the format is wrong, I'm new here (in exodus from Reddit) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has links to book piracy bots in telegram. I know there used to be a lot, but they kept being closed down and I haven't been able to find a working one. (If there is a discord equivalent, that also works for me) Thanks!!

Install Telegram from the official website. The google play version has copyright restrictions.

Really? Cause I use ExteraGram and it still shows CR shit

[–] FreeBird@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 days ago

Idk. I haven't used forks or unofficial clients. But Spotify download bots would show a copyright restriction pop up on the google play version while in the version downloaded from the official website I could use the bots with no problem.

Is there a way to do that in IOS?

[–] Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago

There's a fork called Swiftgram, they might have left out the content restrictions in their App Store build. If not, you can try building the .ipa from source and sideloading it using AltStore.

If you got a PC. You can maybe use the Desktop client. Maybe Telegram web works on Macs, too.

Telegram Web A might be your next best solution. Though not a native app. https://web.telegram.org/a/

[–] FreeBird@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

Nothing that I am aware of.

Create an account on Z-Library (beware of fake sites), in there you'll find instructions of how to create your own bot. This way the bot will only be accessible to you and won't trigger the CR restrictions.

Telegram is not private or secure.

One encryption key can unlock the entire service

I used to use a few TG bots too back in the day, but switched entirely to Annas archive in terms of ebooks, which I can rly recommend

[–] Lucky73@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, but the other day I tried Anna's archive for the first time and it actually makes you wait between downloading books! I usually like to download a ton of books and then spend the next few months reading them. Instead of going one by one, so I don't know if it is the kind of thing I'm looking for. I use libgen a lot, but lately I've had trouble accessing it :S

[–] reseller_pledge609@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Buying a membership may go against the spirit of the post and the community, but Anna's Archive is a very worthwhile cause and you get faster downloads without waiting.

If that's not an option, they have torrents for chunks of their collection as far as I understand. Costs nothing but bandwidth and seeding helps keep the archive safe.

Yep. Problem is the user is on ios where it is at best a massive pain to torrent and at worst impossible.

[–] weirdo_from_space@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Anna's Archive also provides links to outside links, you can use those whenever they're available. Also there is one server that doesn't make you wait, it's really slow but that's not a big deal for epub files.

[–] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 days ago

this, I always use external downloads when downloading in "bulk"

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't have the links you're looking for, so I can't be any help there, but I do want to give you a hearty welcome to Lemmy anyway!

[–] Lucky73@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 days ago

Thanks! It's kind of weird, but I'm getting used to it. And with the state of the world right now, I want to be sure I can still pirate things (and Reddit seems to be a breath away from banning r/Piracy). Priorities

[–] Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I remember at some point there was a good IRC channel for this too

[–] Lucky73@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 days ago (4 children)

That would also work for me if you can remember more

[–] Goodtoknow@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

#ebooks channel on irchighway afaik

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

https://github.com/aghayes/rusty_book_pirate/ don't know if this still works as it hasn't been updated in 4 years but might wanna give it a try

[–] Boourns@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

#ebooks on irchighway.net

They also have a request service on cerealbox.net

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

#bookz on undernet is what I've used in the past.

[–] Captainautism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is there a good iOS compatible app to download torrents? I know utorrents is good for a computer….

[–] Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago

iTorrent is pretty nice, but you have to sideload it
