Don’t you dare call me old. Im in massive amounts of denial.

[–] awsamation@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Shit, I remember these in school. And I'm 22, pretty sure early 20s isn't ood enough to count for an "are you this old" meme.

[–] neutralbipolar2@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

May of 2001 baby

I hate that people are calling me old. I just graduated college, leave me alone lmao

[–] Nepenthe@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

From someone who also remembers this, it doesn't get better in your thirties.

If it's anything, you and a college buddy of mine were both teething during 9/11, and I watched that live as a kid, and adults with their own apartments not remembering that is distressing to me. He'll act like a perfectly normal adult and then it will come out he always thought pokemon was lame, and it's because it had already worn out all of its welcome by the time he hit elementary school.

You're not old. I'm normal and you're a baby. Tiny infant. Do you want to go in the playplace?

[–] mycoxadril@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yea my kids have these games and they are around 10. And they aren’t my old versions of them, they’re new. This toy is definitely not a good use of this meme.

[–] Signtist@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I'm old enough to think that these aren't that old.

[–] lohrun@fediverse.boo 1 points 1 year ago

I’m trying to come to terms with it myself

[–] TheGoldenGod@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It feels like people in their early twenties aren’t old. 🥴

[–] TenorTheHusky@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Bruh I'm 18 and I used these as a kid lol

[–] Sc00ter@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I'm 35 and had these as a kid. Not sure when they were actually invented

[–] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I literally don't get why these exist

[–] Steeve@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 year ago

You hold one, someone else holds another, you throw the ball at the other person's, it bounces off because tennis balls don't fucking stick to velcro at high velocities god damnit

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I'm sorry but I'm old and these appeared in my middle age and are still a thing on beaches

[–] Furball@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I used those and I’m not old at all these things are always stupid

[–] Globulart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You didn't realise you got old. Young people now look at you and see an old person, sorry mate.

If your age doesn't start with a 0 or 1 then you're old to so many people, a 5 year old doesn't discern much between a 20 or a 40 year old.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh my god I loved these growing up. I loved them because you could throw and catch a ball without having to worry about your subpar fine motor skills causing you to drop the ball and interrupt play.

[–] lohrun@fediverse.boo 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Exactly! Your hand just had to be in the general area to “catch” it. I think I remember these and the butt scooters (colorful little squares with 4 wheels on the bottom and handles on the side) the most from PE

[–] eselover@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You mean the scooters that you ran over you fingers all the time and surprised your fingers aren't little pancakes today?

[–] Zippythezigzag@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Your school got handles on your butt scooters!? Ours was just plywood on four wheels and you were lucky if you didn't get one of the ones with fixed position wheels.

[–] Z3k3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] theharber@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They should feel lucky you gave them velcro catch instead of the metal lawn darts we were trusted with.

[–] elscallr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lawn darts were fucking awesome

[–] instamat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

They really were

[–] UntouchedWagons@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Yup I had a pair of those, no idea what they're called though

[–] Anestoh@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Man, I can go to my Target right now and buy one of these. Aisle E25.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

I remember these, I never got to use one mainly because I never had anyone to use it with.

[–] nbailey@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Mine got used as a cat brush once and never worked right after that. Cat was happy though

[–] Enigma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I just got one of these for my kids.

[–] ramius345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago
[–] Femcowboy@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

You're not old just cause u remember a thing from school. They still use these in gym classes all over, and you can still buy these in stores for 5 bucks.

[–] voidf1sh@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I'm old enough to remember scraping the shit out of my knuckles on these when rummaging through the toy bin

[–] doctorfinlay@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

I first saw these advertised when I was at primary school in the late 80s early 90s I think- the branded ones were called “Scatch” i believe.
