Double the price of electricity sold to the US, see how long it takes Trump to roll over.
Canada holds large swathes of the US by the balls, particularly in the winter.
There is a flaw in using electricity as our mallet - the people it will hit the most are in border states (I used to live in VT which is totally dependent on HydroQuebec)... unfortunately Trump may genuinely not give a shit about a lot of the people complaining about the increased electricity costs.
I'd suggest oil - we should be moving off of it anyways so let's just shut down the pipelines and starve the US out.
Trudeau seemed to be scared of losing Smith's loyal support in not doing that with oil.
Trump doesn't care about Smith, he doesn't want to lose $upport from the CEOs of ExxonMobil, Chevron, and the other petro companies.
Trudeau seemed to care too much about Smith in his response, as if LPC will win a seat in that province. US Petroleum Institute (lobbyists) said only that they were working with Trump (not Canada) on objectives, though did say they prefer no tariffs. US industry needs to make statements more supportive of Canada than they are so far.
It should be commended that he's working with the premiere and not just worried about his party's seats. Smith is the problem.
we'll see how on board she stays, but splitting export tax with province is best applied early.
Disappointingly true. We should absolutely fast track LNG and oil export deals overseas. Slap on an export tariff onto oil and Hydro.Trump already kind of blinked by only putting 10% on Canadian energy, so one of his oligarchs is begging. Double it to 20%, or equalize it to 25%. At the same time increase exports to the west. Prior to the Transmountain expansion, we were doing a "pipeline by rails". It's suboptimal, but no one wins in a trade war but not responding means you're going to loose worse.
Trudeau is too scared of Danielle Smith's wannabe Vichy Canada administration.
I don't agree with starting long term investments today. US is comitted to LNG overcapacity. I'd like to see tariffs on China dropped where possible.
Short term, export tariffs with proceeds split equally between fed and provinces where fed portion is given as cash to Canadians, and province can choose whether to support business or people. This is the right path to hurt US consumers and get them to complain to Trump.
What bothered me the most about Trudeau's speech is the commitment to military/policy alliance. All US defense purchases need suspension. All fentanyl/border efforts eliminated, and savings from border security until tariffs removed. All of the projects they did this week restored as reward for removing tariffs. This is an act of war. Immediate high level meetings with Russia, China, Iran, North Korea. There is a need to speak like Trump... Canada has been "taken advantage of". CIA/US propaganda arms must be disposessed immediately. NORAD fees payable to US must be set to extortion levels, and any US escallation threats must be responded with threats to replace US presence at NORAD sites with Russian presence.
Key is getting US companies to show loyalty to Canada supply chain and customers. Get EU to show loyalty to Canada. Any insufficiencies must result in drastic changes of alliances, and efforts to win this war.
I would have capital investment to the private sector. More just sign some deals, such as long term pricing or export permits, whatever. Trump is obsessed with oil and gas. If we signed some deals it would send a pretty cheap signal.
Premier Eby made some similar comments wrt approvals for mines and such. Slightly different, but if there is a global market and construction is going to take a while, might as well get building now.
I'm worried that this unstable jackass will use the military to force us to bow down. He's already declared war on us, so who knows what the end game is.
Meanwhile our moron ass fuck premier is trying to attend trumpβs inauguration and wasting taxpayer money to not even get in. God I hate how stupid my province can be sometimes.
I, too, hate your stupid province sometimes.
(You seem cool though)
Iβm not cool, itβs a farce.
Pretty cool as far as farces go though
BC and NF Premiers were much more forceful than Trudeau, who was very disappointing in complete lack of anger, and desperation to restore alliance. Canada can only restore alliance by breaking it off in face of declaration of war.
