Go and get checked for sleep apnea.

This was happening to me alot. Waking up multiple times a night, desperate for water, like, pints of it, then do a big wee and back to bed.

I started getting issue with staying alert and awake in the day, i was dozing off in work meetings (not fully, but like when your head dips and just jolt awake again)

If you dont have it, then great, mark that off the list.

If you do have it, get it dealt with because it's bad for your heart as your body uses adrenaline to wake you when you stop breathing and leaving it untreated shaves years off your life.

If you let it go too far you can be suspended from driving and all sorts until you get it under control.

And then I chug a bunch of water so my body will let me sleep. And then about an hour before I have to wake up my body is like “PEE TIME”

Who invented this system? It sucks.

Some days ago I downed about 700ml of tea and then again a 500ml cup of water. Woke up at 6am (alarm was set to 7am that day) and of course my roommate had the early shift and was getting ready in the god damn bathroom.
I resigned and hoped sleeping through would let me endure the call of nature.
Luckily it did. But she questioned me how I wasnt there anymore after she was done.

Sleeping with the mouth open? Drinking alcohol right before bed?

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Maybe. But sometimes you just need a nice cup of water :)

A guy I studied with had a gene defect that prevented his body from producing proper amounts of antidiuretic hormone. He had to literally set his alarm at night to wake up to hydrate.

[–] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's going on, we can make it three days without water but not a single night?!

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 19 hours ago

Your body retains water through the kidneys. Antidiuretic hormone (or vasopressin) is what tells your kidneys to hold onto water instead of discarding it into the bladder. Which is why you feel parched after a night out drinking, ethanol hinders the production of ADH. Multiply that by 25 and you have the poor dude.

I used to get insatiable thirst in the middle of the night. Then I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and got my blood sugar under control and it doesn't happen so much anymore.

Turk from Scrubs taught me this.

Could be your body needs the water to flush out the trash in your brain while you sleep and runs out before its done

Not sure if diabetes or histamine attack. Time suggests anon is eating too much histamine

Every once in a great while I’ll suddenly awaken to violent, parched coughing from dehydration. It’s no fun at all, so I try not to go to sleep thirsty.

How's the humidity in your home?

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

all my problems of suddenly waking up in the middle of the night to drink a whole glass of water and splash my face in the sink were solved when i got a humidifier

If you are getting super dehydrated overnight you might be diabetic, might want to get checked.

(Thats how I found out I was diabetic... that and the leg/foot cramps.)

Reminds me of this part in The Simpsons Guy:

Meg: I matter.

Lisa: Louder!

Meg: I MATTER!!!

Peter: Shut up Meg, you don't matter!
