Shattered Pixel Dungeon, popular roguelike (as in, actually like Rogue)

[–] felbane@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Mindustry, factory based sandbox tower defense (mobile Factorio)

[–] TheLongPrice@lemmy.one 7 points 1 month ago (3 children)

How are the mobile controls?

[–] redd@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 month ago

Playable for sure, but in bigger battles its complicated to keep an overview over big maps

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Very frustrating for people with fingers.

[–] felbane@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Honestly I much prefer playing on desktop, but it's playable on mobile if a bit frustrating.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

It isn't quite like Factorio.

It is better

Luanti a game engine that runs an Open Source massively moddable Minecraft clone, among other games.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 month ago

This one deserves a nice big bold underline, this project has already come such a far way!

Simon Tatham's Puzzles contains many classic puzzle games and many more that are destined to be future classics.

Pixel Dungeon a rogue-like that is very like Rogue.

[–] redd@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Since this is not updated or maintained anymore, there is a spin off with very active development: https://github.com/00-Evan/shattered-pixel-dungeon

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago

Ooh, great point!

[–] felbane@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Rabbit Escape, basically Lemmings with cute bunnies. Don't let them splat!

[–] nailingjello@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Thanks for this one. Hadn't seen it before and I used to love Lemmings games.

[–] felbane@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Xeonjia: Ice Adventures, extremely cute sliding-ice puzzle game

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Box Stacker

A physics puzzle-game.

Join the sticky 'tetrominoes' to move a ball/box/car to the scoring zone.

Includes online leaderboard to view the solutions of players around the world. A faster finish with less total pieces is better.

Challenging and fun game, with a quality physics model.

Apotris is probably the best version if tetris available, and it's foss.

You can get a compiled ROM for GBA and play it on android with a FOSS emulator like Lemuroid. It works!

Does forkyz count? I got addicted into crosswords recently, and this one is nice.

I've played a lot of Lato. It's a simple skiing game where you tap the screen to jump and can hold to rotate yourself in the air. There are rocks and pits to avoid and coins to collect.

Good for killing awkward amounts of time.

Chip Defense, an interesting and challenging take on tower defense.

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 2 points 1 month ago

I got really into chip defense. The concept is a really fun twist on classic enemy hp mechanisms in tower defense. However I think the game's controls design "scales" poorly with its difficulty curve. Building a new "tower" takes too many taps for the game to continue running in the background. Same for upgrading towers. The worst is when starting a level, you kind of need to rush placing towers to not mechanically end up in a fail state.

If the game let you build and upgrade when paused (or at least queue up those actions to be executed when un-paused) I would have continued playing it.

Or should be made available

Could, then, people here in the comments bring FOSS games from other sources too?

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

As long as it can be played without any issues on AOSP/De-Googled-Android

Thank you for this one, this is basically one of the games that I get advertised on Duolingo after completing a lesson (the "playable ad" kind) and it sucks me in every time. Nice to have a version that's FOSS.

Now, if someone would just implement a FOSS version of that "wooden screw puzzle" game I'd be over the moon.

Gauguin, a kenken style sudoku-like game where you place numbers in a grid.

A simple, fun math game with nice customization and difficulty settings.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Luanti, Mindustry, vector pinball, super tux cart and Tux rider.

Honorable mention: Tailscale+Moonlight (game streaming)

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

I never play it as it gets boring after a while.

Cool app though

[–] siipale@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

Regex Crossword. Unfortunately it doesn't have as many puzzles as the non-FOSS alternative.

[–] Modanung@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

In the category of "should be made available" here's some LucKey Productions titles that could be compiled for Android and are suitable for playing on mobile:

I (main developer) however do not own a smartphone. Come aboard the Colourship if you'd like to help out!

[–] monnier@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I really liked Flowit. I wish there were more of it (tho admittedly when I go back to it, I have often forgotten enough that it's fun again)
