Summary

The FTC has launched an antitrust investigation into Microsoft’s cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity practices, marking the most significant U.S. scrutiny of Microsoft since the 1990s.

Initiated under FTC Chair Lina Khan during the Biden administration, the probe follows a failed FTC attempt to block Microsoft’s $69 billion Activision Blizzard acquisition.

The case’s future depends on whether the incoming Trump administration pursues it, with analysts predicting a softer stance on Big Tech, though VP-elect JD Vance has expressed support for antitrust efforts.

Broader tech investigations, including against Google and Nvidia, are also ongoing.

Wtf is that headline? What else could you do with an investigation?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 51 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They could either have written the headline or dropped it.

maybe it wants to draw attention to it being really bad time to do that since investigation will likely be dropped and it might also make it difficult to do it later due to precedent. Coming administration will be completely corrupt and expecting anything else is delusional.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

FWIW, the direction of corruption depends on who is paying. If Microsoft doesn't play ball but Amazon or Google or whoever else want to "tip" some members of the administration in exchange for "fairly" investigating a rival, I could possibly see it going somewhere.
