Pack it in, this is the response we were all looking for. The only thing for which the Oscars are good is to be a gathering of cunts born with a silver spoon up their rear ends.
The article title is... something.
It's not just anime but every non-American film industry and culture is under-represented in the Academy Awards. There's a lot of good movies put out by other regions but because the Academy Awards has a small segment called "Foreign Films", naturally you'll have so many countries competing for a spot there.
Because of this, I wouldn't rely on the Academy Awards to decide what movies are "best". I also wouldn't say that "film is dead" even if anime (or any other non-American film industry) doesn't get a nomination. Saying something like that is absurd because it implies that film is defined by Oscar nominations somehow.
The article doesn't touch the most important point against the chances of an anime movie winning an Oscar: the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is very American as at least 50% of the members are American, and even more Western-centric since most of the other members are from North America or Europe. Non American movies always have an uphill battle to win an Oscar but something that is quintessentially non-western doubly so.
~~Edit: and the article also forgot to mention that Miyazaki already won two Oscars. So it's not like Japanese animation is being fully ignored.~~

First paragraph
Not only have anime films rarely been nominated for Best Animated Feature, but of the few nominations there have been, the only winners were Spirited Away in 2003 and The Boy and the Heron in 2024.
For some reason I always thought OP ED meant opinion piece editorial lol
That's me as well until fact-checking. Learned something new
I would certainly support Look Back's nomination. However, if I can only pick one animated film, I'd rather go with The Wild Robot which is not an anime.
How sad it must be to let the academy decide what "film" is for them.
when OP ED means "opening/ending" and not "opposite of the editorial page"
I'd prefer overpowered erectile dysfunction.
