this seems like a really odd choice. admittedly the old name wasn't great, it sounded like spreadsheet software.

but they've gone from a name that was the top search result to one that will never be, because the current top search result for "firefish" is a recruitment company that can put a lot more money into seo than they can; and a name that most people who would use it (techies & early adopters) will immediately assume is a firefox fork or mozilla product

in isolation it's not a bad name, and i really like the new logo; but it just seems like a poor choice

I agree with everything you said. I do hope if they see all the lukewarm/negative feedback and decide to rebrand again that they stick with the fish theme and icon. It's cute and I like that all the microblog platforms have animals associated with them. Bird, Elephant, and now Fish. Elephant and Fish can be friends, Bird can fuck off.

Hilariously, with all the TLD drama today, I saw there was a .fish TLD and got mad at Calckey for not registering fire.fish

Just switched from Mastodon. The difference in features is insane.

EDIT: I will say I do appreciate the minimalist vibe that mastodon is going for, but I found myself wanting more

Yeeeah... It's crazy how many quality of life features Misskey and Firefish have over Mastodon. I'm thinking about making the switch myself despite the big difference in UI.

Biggest issue I've had so far is with the apps. Kaitekis the only one that really suits all my needs but it grey screens on my phone

Thank you for this. Just signed up myself and in terms of UI/UX, Calckey is to Mastodon what Kbin is to Lemmy... perhaps to an even greater degree

Absolutely! The ability to have a file drive with all the pictures you've posted, the concept of "antennas", and the ability to seriously customize the interface are very welcome in comparison with flat Mastodon. My only pet peeves are that it still doesn't play fine with Lemmy or PeerTube feeds.

I was curious about Calckey/Firefish, I'm even more curious now haha.

What's their relation to Misskey nowadays? I haven't kept up with fedi software for like a year

[–] ahriboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

They're separate. Misskey is working to have post edits featured. Foundkey is on limited maintenance, which means that remaining Foundkey instances will start transitioning to Firefish anytime when Foundkey dev gives up developing the project.

What, again?

Note to self, see how much will this break the YunoHost packaging as it will need to rebrand in turn

[–] retronautickz@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

I don't know how I feel about the new name, but I'm curious to see what new features come with the rebranding.

Calckey/Firefish is by far my favourite microblogging platform. It has a greater number of features than mastodon, and I personally find it more inviting.

What I wanna know is, with it being its own thing now (rather than a fork of misskey), while it still be supported by Misskey apps, like MilkTea?
