Credit Garry Trudeau. Third panel refers to Irgun terrorist group leader and Likud founder (and israeli pm) Menachem Begin.

So 40+ years of the same thing. Good job Israel

This didn't start in the 80s.

I always liked Doonesbury. Gary Trudeau was never afraid to call out a little bullshit, heavy on the satire.

Why would someone think it's doctored?

It is manipulated to better fit phone screens, the panel was a single row originally. You can see the splice if you look closely.

Plus many incurious people still hold Israel with such regard to think that all of this is a recent escalation instead of status quo policy since Ben-Gurion.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. Unless that's a caricature of someone specific, that is...uncomfortable, to say the least.

Nice to see Trudeau weighing in. For better or worse, he always seems at his best when there's an absurd war on.

Not that not all wars are absurd; just that some are more horrific in some dimensions than others.

This is from 40 years ago...

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Despite that, I'm surprised so little has changed. "Terrorism" wasn't the big bad until 9/11.
