This looks really good! Super Mario RPG was the last game I expected to see be remade!

[-] king_dead@beehaw.org 7 points 1 year ago

No way! This is still my favorite Mario RPG i cant believe they're finally doing something with the series! They've always been so reluctant to even acknowledge its existence since it got released

[-] myersguy@lemmy.simpl.website 7 points 1 year ago

I believe this all boiled down to issues with ownership (SquareEnix / Nintendo). Seems they've worked something out, though!

[-] knova@links.dartboard.social 6 points 1 year ago

I’m actually shocked this is happening

[-] Cylinsier@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Somebody in a different thread said they would love a SMRPG remake and I almost replied "never gonna happen." Well...holy shit.

[-] Dekthro@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Me too, I pre-ordered.

[-] computerfan0@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

I am too! Given that this game hardly ever gets mentioned, I never even thought that a remake could happen!

[-] CalamityKitz@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

At last, and it looks so GOOD!! Can't wait!!

[-] ScrumblesPAbernathy@readit.buzz 4 points 1 year ago

This looks awesome. I feel like it would be worth $40usd but I'm betting Nintendo will be asking $70usd. For 70, I'll stick to the SNES.

edit: it's $60usd

[-] kiddblur@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

I read somewhere that Nintendo said that they're not blanket raising their games to $70; that they evaluate on a title by title basis, which is why the new WarioWare is $50 (as is the pikmin collection)

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

From another post, it looks like it'll be $60.

Okay hold up, this actually looks fantastic O.o

I'm happy that they're polishing this game up for folks that may never have played it. There's a chance I may buy it after I've caught up on other games but I'm just as happy knowing that this exists.

[-] lemillionsocks@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Wow I cant believe it finally happened. Mario RPGs fans have been vocally craving more since Paper Mario. A remake isnt technically more but it's cool to see this game finally get official recognition again and bring in new fans who can fuel the flames of ADD GENOS TO SMASH discourse

[-] Grimace@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

I'm glad it's a few months release from now because with the ports of Pikmin 1 and 2 this is going to be the summer of Pikmin for me lol

[-] Awhiskeydrunker@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Probably my favorite and most played Mario game of all time. Now I see why they never released it on Virtual Console… this is even better. Can’t wait to play it with my daughters who love the Mario franchise!

[-] jax819@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

One of my all time favorites! So glad to see this!

[-] GeneralBoop@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

No more jiggle physics for Valentina, guess Nintendo vetoed that this time around.

[-] Spitfire@pawb.social 2 points 1 year ago

The proportions are a little off to me but that may be the style.

Can’t believe they’re remaking it though!

[-] Inspectigator@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

I am all for this. I absolutely cannot wait for it to be released!!! Super Mario RPG was absolutely one of my favorite games as a kid. I've been jonesing to pull in back out lately... This will be so much fun!

[-] ACanadianGamer@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Cannot wait for this. I hope there is a physical version (mentioned only the eshop in Nintendo Direct) but looking forward to replaying one of my SNES favourites.

[-] Raincloud@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Watching the trailer again, it seems to have that same overly clean, lifeless HUD that all the other recent Mario games have been going for. That's kinda sad, a blemish on what otherwise seems to be great work.

[-] StewieTheThird@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

This direct was a hit after hit for me. I am excited for nearly every game on the lineup

A classic game you can beat over a weekend. I love that it stays true to the squishy, goofy original art. Man that boss theme is so nostalgic, the whole OST is a bop.

[-] GhostMagician@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Can it really be beaten over a weekend? I might give the original a shot before getting into the remake.

I've played it a few times casually, but last full playthrough I did I think my play time was 20 hours or so. So maybe a long weekend, but yeah its a short game. It doesn't waste your time and keeps things fresh and moving pretty quick. No grinding, no resource time gating, a straight no frills experience. Just run around and fight monsters for levels. If you've never played it before, really take in the OST, it is 10/10. Especially if you're a fan of the music from that console era.

The story is cute, and has some good jokes. Its just a solid game, and great to chill to. Unless you go out of your way for secret bosses, the main story is fairly easy as well.

[-] GhostMagician@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I do love SNES music. Particularly Chrono Trigger. I've been playing more retro games since I got the steam deck.

[-] Mewio@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

This is awesome. I do wish they gave it a paper mario aesthetic. That would have been very interesting to me.

[-] LilBagOfBunnies@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Personally, I think the new art looks incredible! It manages to stay true to the original style of the SNES release, but looks modern and can show off a ton of personality. As long as the gameplay is still great, and I'm not sure why it wouldn't be, I think there is plenty of space for both releases to coexist.

Plus considering Nintendo added Link's Awakening DX on NSO despite the Switch remake having already been released, it seems like they think so too.

[-] ShustOne@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

I'm so freaking stoked for this. I've been wanting to replay the original but I think I'll just wait for this!

[-] notfromhere@lemmy.one 0 points 1 year ago

Why is everyone getting downvoted in the comments?

[-] StewieTheThird@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

On here? not possible, the beehaw community this is hosted on has downvotes disabled. Unless you mean on yt which all i can say to that is "its youtube".

[-] Mekboy_nutkrakka@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Some instances can still downvote it just wont affect beehaw users but i don't see the downvotes either so probably someone on lemmy.one cause only notfromhere can see it.

[-] kiddblur@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Are you sure? I'm here from lemm.ee and I can downvote comments in this post and it shows their points decrease when I do it

[-] StewieTheThird@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

Your client may show it and your instance may collect the locally but once your instances syncs with Beehaw again it will update. At least that’s my understanding - not sure if there is someone with a better understanding about federated instances and how they handle downvotes.

[-] some_guy@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

everyone else can downvote y’all though lol.

[-] notfromhere@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Turns out it was a UI bug in the Memmy app. Everything is working now
