Has anyone else seen problems using a portable charger (USB-A) with their new phone?

I plugged the phone into my portable charger and saw all four status LEDs, indicating the charger saw the phone and had a full charge available. However my phone never started charging, and the status lights on the charger eventually went off as it gave up.

At first I thought it was the new cables, but I used the same cable with an old Apple charger, no problem. Unfortunately I don’t have another usb-c device I can try with that cable and portable charger.

The portable charger charges older (Lightning) phones, so that is not the problem.

So all three of my new iPhone, portable charger, and new cable work in other scenarios but not this specific combination.

Edit to add: rebooting worked. Thanks @weksa@lemm.ee

I just went and tried USB A-C with 4 different portable chargers I have and all of them worked just fine.

Dumb idea, reboot the phone and then connect it to the charger.

It’s not dumb when it works. THANKS

Make sure you plug it in the correct order, or it will try to charge the charger

How? There are only two possibilities and neither works

This doesn't really help, but it's not just you.

Edit: Oh, wait, this article is specifically about USB-C chargers. Still odd yours isn't working with USB-A!

Both my portable chargers clearly label an input port different from a charging port. In my case the input is Lightning and charges through two usb-a …. So you can use the same cable for both, on older iPhones.

Looking online at the charger that article is about, clearly labels usb-c as input only. I suppose the description can hold be in response, but the picture shows it labeled on the device.

I’ve heard other scenarios of funky behavior with new devices. The new iPhone might see the charger as a device to be charged, not one that will charge the new iPhone.
