Cat hangout.

Nooks and crannie help English muffins deliver butter to my mouth.

Wouldn’t mind having a gaming nook

If I recall, the Nook is a creature known for wearing a hat with a hook on it. The hook allows it to view a book hands-free while it's doing other activities like cooking. But the Nook can't read, so the Nook can't cook, leaving many to wonder, what good is a Nook with a hook cookbook?

A place for hobbies: music/instrument, painting, knitting, puzzles, etc.

A tree can offer a shady nook to sit and enjoy. There can be a cozy nook in your house for sitting.

It’s nice to have a place out by the brook to do your knitting (if you’re into that). It’s a certain state of mind you’re in where, looking for a nook to sit in, you start to notice where you’d fit in, tucked in with a book and your favorite little kitten (if you’ve got a cat). Doing nothing on lazy afternoon. Old cartoons. Organize your spoons, whatever. Wrap yourself in comforters and sit and watch the stormy weather. From a nook you can look through a rainy pane of glass at the past, at your tethers, pick out the bugs and salt and preen your feathers. Think about the things human beings do and how you did your share of stupid things too. You can think about the world and whether, in this kind of awful weather, you’d rather you be out and about or just warm-chillin in your own home. Tucked tight in a nook like an unused rook. With your kitty in your corner and a book.

If it's a windowsill nook, I guess an alcove, then about the most common thing I see people use them for is smoking
