I tried all the clients that are out there and no matter good they felt alien as I was accustomed to using Boost on Reddit. Now that the lemmy client has come, it's like I'm using reddit now. The only thing that bugs me is most communities didn't move from reddit and I'd have to continue using the official shitty app to engage with them.

Also I wanna know whether this one time payment would be all to access all the features or does the dev intend to go the sync route and offer something like ultra tier?

I agree with the other comments that stated that you should be the change you want to see in the world..

Lemmy does need a lil bit more content now. Engage with the users. Create posts and create comments. This is the future bro. A platform hosted by the users, for the users. You are not buying a yacht for anyone by using lemmy. On reddit however.. You use reddit and someone else gets to buy a new house..

Agreed. Just gotta give the place love. Pick something you care about and just talk about it.

e.g. I'm a pro wrestling guy. When the Redditpocalypse happened, a handful of the /r/SQ people came over here to kbin and made a community and just kinda...died after a week or three from lack of use cause everyone stuck with Reddit or went to the Discord.

Right now /m/SquaredCircle is the largest and most active wrestling community on lemmy/kbin (at least that I can see when searching), mostly cause A) my ass for the last few months has been posting 99% of the news and occasional highlights, and B) 1 of the new mods has been posting all the discussion threads and kicking up engagement where he can.

We building this shit up.

My biggest disappointment on Lemmy is the lack of sports here. But I have started to just post myself in those communities and contribute.

As the saying goes.... Rome wasn't built in a day.

The gaming and local community groups either don't exist or are very sparse.

The only thing that bugs me is most communities didn't move from reddit [...]

Be the change you want to see in the world. Try to start one of those communities over here. Don't be disappointed when it doesn't get traction within a few days. There are some places to advertise new communities here.

I second this. I barely know fuck all about Lemmy, and I still manage to have small community. They kinda just manage themselves, but I'm there too.

That's what I had thought but there are some niche things I'm into and most other people who are into the same, neither have the time nor do they wanna put any efforts into learning something new, heck many wouldn't even know that lemmy exists or there were other clients you could use to access reddit. So I'll have to stick with it.

Also this whole fediverse and instances thing is a bit too complex to wrap head around for people who aren't geeky and just wanna get things done.

[-] rbits@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

Lemmy just doesn't have the userbase for super niche communities though

You can still use the old Boost for Reddit app. You just have to be a mod. If you're not yet a mod you can just create a new subreddit and set it to private. You can also spoof the client with the Revanced app.

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Wdym by beinga mod? I know about spoofing with revanced but it looked complicated so didn't try.

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 3 points 9 months ago

Just create a subreddit. You'll have to use the awful official app once more for that but it'll be the last time.

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Ty it works. Hope reddit doesn't ban me for doing this.

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 3 points 9 months ago

i hope Reddit does ban me actually

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Haha that'd be for a good cause.

[-] stefanyas@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Somehow the app works for me without being a mod or using the patch.

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I'm not a mod anymore either but it still works, I assume you just have to have been a mod at some point.

[-] stefanyas@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

I was for a couple of months, now that you mention it.

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 2 points 9 months ago

well thanks for confirming my theory :)

[-] stefanyas@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

You as well for making me remember that I was a mod at some point haha

[-] Misk@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Omg so THATS why Boost is still working for me...! I thought I was the only one, through some unbelievably fortuitous glitch in the matrix, and I've been keeping my mouth shut about it so that I wouldn't jinx it ๐Ÿคฃ

I must admit it's hard for me to give up Reddit and fully transition to Lemmy when my experience on Reddit has been completely unaffected due to the ModBoost effect. I'm keeping one foot in each door because not all of my favourite subs have migrated (yet) and I do think what's happening here is honestly pretty special, it reminds me of the golden days of the internet before everything went to shit.

Thanks for the info friend!

I'm saying that, I just this moment got Boost for Lemmy which I'm sure will be a massive turning point! Can't believe how slick it's running already. Boost devs I salute you ๐Ÿซก ๐Ÿ™

[-] Steveanonymous@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

This is what I use to sneak back into Reddit

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Looks good but I'd have preferred an app.

[-] Tzeentch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 9 months ago

You can take a crack at using Geddit I suppose, doesn't use the reddit api so should keep working, but is in turn kinda janky as a result: https://github.com/kaangiray26/geddit-app

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

I'll check it out. Ty.

[-] Synnr@sopuli.xyz 1 points 9 months ago

There's an "allowed" 3rd party app called Relay Pro that I sometimes use. Allowed because they were not using much API, supposedly (and also allowed to show ads by reddit now ๐Ÿค”) Not sure if any others.

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Ah sounds interesting. Ty.

[-] shashi154263@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago
[-] Climinteedus@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Holy shit, this is what I've been needing for reddit since the API changes!

I can once again filter out whole subreddits, words, and emojis!

[-] shashi154263@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, it's amazing.

[-] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

It feels a little more stable. I haven't seen lemmy go down in a month or so.

[-] sr2751@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Yup because a lot of people that joined after reddit api changes have left it and not many people are joining lately, so the instance owners have built the capacity to handle the active users.

[-] Asuracharya@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Agree, boost client is the best

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

There are some fucking great communities here though - I've already found my fuckcars and adhd breatheren.
