Hey folks, there are a few apps in the Android world which I use to watch YouTube without ads. Some examples are ReVanced, NewPipe etc. I was wondering if there is a similar app that I can use to fulfill the same needs such as ad blocking, downloading and viewing on iOS. Figured if anyone knew it'd be on Lemmy. Thanks in advance!

I use Yattee to connect to a Invidious instance.

Third party YouTube frontends will not be accepted in the App Store. Maybe with sideloading this can change.

I was sideloading Cercube on iOS when it actually worked. Was good while it lasted.

I recommend a combination of the following Safari extensions: Stop the Madness Pro, UnTrap for YouTube, and SponsorBlock.

Total cost was about the same as one month of ad free YouTube. Works beautifully.

I can finally enjoy YouTube again after giving up jailbreaking.

Making some shortcuts retrains muscle memory. I set a dedicated tab in Safari just for YouTube so it doesn’t clutter up my regular browsing.

freetubeapp.io is my go to

For simple free ad blocking, you can use Brave browser.

For paid options, there are Safari extensions (I haven't tried these but have read about them): Vinegar does ad blocking and there is also a SponsorBlock extension.

I need to read more about those options while I wait for sideloading to come

On iOS side loading is your best option. Search for Alt store and YouTube.

Register a premium YouTube account in Pakistan via a VPN and pay only $2 a month.

How did you manage to do this? I tried it with other countries but had no luck, plus I don't have any payment methods there lol

I forgot the name, but just used a free vpn/proxy addon in Firefox.

I was able to use my own VISA, no issues.

some blocks of known VPN ip addresses are flagged by services. so circumvention by vpn can be hit or miss.

And pay google to continue to invest in Israel’s economy? No thank you.

I used YouTube iVanced (taken down though I think.) but I know there is also uYou plus. The telegram channel "zxcvbn's tweaked IPAs" hosts it along with a lot of other tweaked apps. If you don't have trollstore installed on your device, you'll have to use sideloadly to install it. YouTube is your friend for that part.

if you run iOS 15.1-17.0, trollstore should work. If you're fully up to date, search for sideloadly.

LibreTube is pretty good. Although not sure if it's on iOS.

Only if you’re in the EU and Japan. We gotta support sideloading worldwide.

I mean, you could just pay YouTube for their services and get Premium.

[–] bokherif@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Obviously, but lately YouTube and music has sucked so much that I don't think it's worth paying for. The recommendation engine has been very bad and I only use it for a specific purpose so it's not worth it anymore in my opinion.

[–] nezbyte@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Agreed, YT algorithms are useless and I just look at my subscriptions.

As a counterpoint though, watching with YT Premium provides more money to content creators than ad-supported views. Knowing some of the money is going to a part-time hobbyist making interesting videos in their basement helps me justify it.

[–] bokherif@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Honestly, I don't even think about the creators, because YouTube should be the one paying them, not me.

[–] nezbyte@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

no worries, I love the diversity in perspective.

Modded apps have more features than just ad blocking

Like better user interface
