The jury might still be deliberating, but Donald Trump’s media allies have already delivered a verdict to their audiences.

Throughout the duration of the Manhattan hush-money trial, Fox News and the rest of MAGA Media have set the stage to absolve Trump in the historic case. Day after day, week after week, popular personalities such as Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Steve Bannon have lampooned the judicial system, portraying Trump as an innocent victim of political persecution.

Inside this alternate media universe, the actual facts of the case never penetrate the bubble that shields its audiences from detrimental developments for Trump. Instead, alternate dishonest storylines are disseminated as the gospel truth.

Not only is Trump entirely innocent of any and allwrongdoing in the MAGA Media world, but President Joe Biden is guilty of nefariously weaponizing government to wage “lawfare” on his political opponent. Audiences are told that Biden cannot win a fair fight with Trump, so he has resorted to illegal “election interference” by rigging the judicial system against Trump.

It really sucks that their viewership is so stupid that they think Biden has any influence whatsoever on a state-level trial.

It really sucks that their viewership is so stupid that they'll vote for Trump.

We do a terrible job of educating citizens on how the government operates. Most people don’t know the three branches and their roles, let alone state vs. Federal oversight.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Yet again, conservative media paints Biden and the Democrats as more influential than they actually are.

What aggravates me about all of Trump and his allies going on and on about how this is a rigged trial, is that if the jury finds him not guilty then their tune will suddenly change. And none is his base will care about the inconsistency there.

Same as other cults...

If the world doesn't end, it's not because you're wrong, it's because you triumphed over evil due to your loyalty being tested.

But only for a while, here's the new apocalypse date and youre gonna have to be even more loyal for the next test.

Same with asking a group to ignore little things like a bj from an intern, than 30 years later they've got you defending the funding of a genocide. Both because the other team does something worse.

Everytime it happens, the cult members excuse more and more. When the only two options in town are both doing it, everything constantly gets worse. It doesn't take long till voters refuse to hold the person they voted accountable for absolutely anything.

We're already more than halfway there...

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 23 points 5 months ago (3 children)

They’ve been implying this throughout the whole trial. It’s unreal that they would state this as fact. Either this should fall under the FCC’s definition of broadcast news distortion, or they should update their definition.

[–] Bael422@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago (2 children)

They don't have to because they aren't legally a news network. They are legally Fox Entertainment. There was a whole lawsuit about that.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

You're mixed up with Tucker Carson's show winning against a lawsuit by saying it's just entertainment.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Which one? I thought they lost the suit against Dominion.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You're like 20 years late on this realization.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I’ve been aware. I actively report deliberately false information, and am encouraging others to do so as well. Opinions are not a breach of FCC regulations. These claims appear to have been stated as facts.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You file complaints to the FCC?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Yup. They have a consumer report portal. You can find it by reading the link I posted above, or go directly to it here:

I usually use the online portal for TV and select “indecency” for reporting false information. I may actually call over this piece. I’ll have to get my hands on the original broadcast first.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 3 points 5 months ago

Do it. If you've got the info they'll respond to, absolutely.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you're wrong.

First, the regulation applies only to the broadcast medium, which means that the FCC has no power to enforce it against cable news networks

Fox News isn't broadcast, so the FCC doesn't have purview to regulate it.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

That’s false. Fox News is available as a television network over VHF, as well as an AM radio station. They are regulated by the FCC. I’ve received responses to my reports to the FCC in the past.

Everybody knows Faux is bullshit...

But it's real frustrating everyone forgot the multi-billionaire who bought CNN explicitly said he was doing it to make it like Faux...

https://www.vox.com/2022/8/26/23322761/cnn-john-malone-david-zaslav-chris-licht-brian-stelter-fox-peter-kafka-column

And man, I don't think I give that piece of shit enough credit when I'm trying to figure out why "moderates" are acting more and more like trumpets.

If you're still getting your news from CNN, it's designed to make you just as rage addicted as the people who never turn off Faux. That's why they keep telling you what Faux is saying, and Faux is always talking about CNN.

It's just a slow boil so you don't see it happening.

But you're gonna get there eventually.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

I turned it on a bit ago just to see how they were spinning. As expected and same as election, if he loses it's because it's rigged. Sounds to me like they expect a guilty verdict.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

So have I, guilty on 1 or more counts, will be sentenced to serve multiple 4 year terms concurrently, then spend a decade challeging and appealing the ruling and the sentencing.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

So this was from a live-stream last night: https://www.youtube.com/live/Wr9HHQYyKeg?si=PtXqucMtls3BJR8C&t=1920

It seems like the jury is taking the process at least fairly seriously, and that the "We the jury" line, makes a clear statement that they themselves see themselves as "on the same team".

If guilty, whats your over-under on # of counts? I think if I'm the defense, this gives me extreme pause. I think Trumps out was getting at least one renegade juror who intended to hang the whole thing. The note implies to me that this isn't the case.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

All it takes is a single juror to insist not guilty on all charges and trump walks.

Realistically the result was determined at jury selection, and we've just been waiting this whole time to hear the result.

A delay doesn't mean that's happening tho. With so many charges it could just be one person thinks 31/32 guilty and the other 11 32/32 guilty.

We just gotta wait.

But if a single trumpet made it in the jury, none of this mattered
