I'll never understand why we keep doing this. We have record productivity compared to this same time a hundred years ago, but we work the same amount of hours roughly regardless. Humans aren't built for modern life. It's no wonder people struggle when we toil away in factories 6 days a week, and sit at computers in offices all day long. No time to actually live life. Just gotta make the boss richer so he can get a bigger yaht.

Unique item found!

You have discovered: The Inherent Flaw In Capitalism!

You get: +100 ennui, +50 sneak, +100,000 destroy the system, +1,000,00 free your comrades from the shackles of an unjust, exploitative order

Congratulations!

Thanks I guess

Because we don't make the decisions about how our society is structured. The people who benefit from our efforts make the decisions, and they're sociopaths who will never voluntarily give up any amount of money or power, despite how good it might be for the masses, or the planet itself.

I agree. I made a career change (am still making a career change?) and it’s been hard. I’m trying to work less while still making ok money.

Fortunately(?) my old career made it impossible to keep a relationship and I didn’t have any kids, so I was able to go back to school and take my time doing this.

I’ve made a lot of sacrifices and I now make $60,000 (CAD) less per year, but I’m way happier.

I wish everyone could have the time and ability to pursue what they really want to do, but life gets in the way more often than not and this fucked up system doesn’t make it any easier.

Could we ask what it is that you do? (you don't have to share if you'd prefer not to)

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I went from trucking to video production. I’m a freelancer now, which is weird to me. I’m still starting out, which is tough at 40 but hey… I’m doin’ it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

quite the changeup, what made you decide on video production?

[–] stembolts@programming.dev 4 points 4 months ago (2 children)

You can infer from their previous comment that it is because it makes them happier.

Trucking business sucks and is massively exploitative, well, I guess that makes it similar to every other business.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Floating goals, really 🤷🏻‍♂️

Since puberty people have told I have a voice for radio, so the original idea was “I bet I could get on the radio to tell fart jokes and try to push my taste in music on the world” but the radio class was full. So I accepted the spot in TV and liked the technical side of things, so I stuck with it.

I was driving a school bus for 3 years to keep myself available for opportunities that came up. I’m now working an entry-level position for a big broadcaster, making more per-hour than I ever did trucking. I have some other freelance work as well, so I quit the school bus last month. So, the change is complete? I dunno, doesn’t feel like I’m there yet, but I’m feeling good about it.

Back up a little. I thought that their new choice in profession was genuinely interesting and wanted to hear them talk more about it. Obviously they chose a different route because trucking wasn't making them happy.

Don't be so presumptive in saying that I should just infer things rather than asking questions. This is supposed to be a place for meaningful discussions.

[–] stembolts@programming.dev 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

True, I hope my comment didn't come across as me shutting you down, I was intending to add not subtract.

Sorry about that.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 months ago

Thank you for being respectful, and I appreciate you saying that. Consider it nothing.

[–] MonkderDritte@feddit.de -2 points 4 months ago

and sit at computers

I do that in my free time tho.

No time to actually live life.

What do you do to live life?

[–] Sharkwellington@lemmy.one 39 points 4 months ago

Saturday: Recover from last week.

Sunday: Prepare for next week.

Weeeeeeeeee

I am confused by the smiling on Friday and Monday.

The Joker smile

[–] JudahBenHur@lemm.ee 23 points 4 months ago

This is why we need the 4 day work week. Essentially all the research shows that productivity improves.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 16 points 4 months ago

This is me but I would be smiling with sleeping in and sad on monday.

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I read that first as "OBEY!! THE WEEKEND!"

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Love that song.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Saturday is my one day of the week to get shit done. Sunday is my only rest day, and sometimes not even then. :(

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm the opposite. Rest on Saturday, housework on Sunday

[–] Papergeist@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I try to push through and get an errand or house chores done after work everyday. My 2 days off end up being exactly that.

[–] humbletightband@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 months ago

Remember kids, chronic fatigue is not curable. If you keep pushing you might find yourselves in this situation

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I always have 2 full days of activities planned for the weekend, but it takes me an entire day to recover from the work week, so I don't get started on my plans until Sunday afternoon, and am always behind on my plans. :(

[–] Mrderisant@midwest.social 1 points 4 months ago

Yeah I get that especially this weekend. Visiting the loud as hell in-laws

[–] menas@lemmy.wtf 1 points 4 months ago
  • Being paid to work for capitalism from monday to friday
  • Smash capitalist stuff on saturday

The only ting it will change is how you feel. It's actually give strength to feel that we could do some things. However if it's the only things that you could do so, it may be addictive, and make the repression even harder. I recommend to join collective self-defense to make it sustainable (like unions, but not only).

Wish you the stregth fellow workers

This does have that obvious propaganda look to it.
