MODERATORS

The Huntington Beach City Council narrowly voted to approve a declaration to ban universal mask and COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the city.

The declaration passed with a 4-3 vote. The meeting adjourned at 2:48 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6.

The new mask and vaccine mandate rules only apply to those who have already tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van Der Mark introduced the motion at the Huntington Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday night. The approval of the declaration essentially makes Huntington Beach a no mask and no vaccine city.

HB is such a joke. I mean, nice suburbia, if you don't talk to your magat, racist neighbors. Great beach area, as long as you stay away during summer and weekends. Nice weather though.

When another pandemic comes- and it will come- that is far more contagious and far deadlier, what are these municipalities going to do when hospitals start filling up and residents start dropping dead?

They will blame some scapegoat for not doing enough or they will blame some scapegoat for doing it on purpose, they will never look at themselves and see the issue is them - same playbook we just watched happen.

And I guess we will just sit back and watch it happen, again. What is there to do? Try to teach these people science? Explain to them nicely herd immunity? They will never ever listen because that's just who they are, conspiracy dumb dumb conservatives who think they know better because they looked into it i.e. some grifter on TV told them so.

Now the obvious solution might be to have the grifters in right wing media actually tell the truth about the matter, but this entire episode was already made political and we will be stuck with the fallout for probably generations.

This happened shortly after 4 council members were disqualified from an 'idiot contest' as professionals weren't allowed

universal mask and COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the city

So municipal mask and super flu vaccines are still okay?

Good. Let them die.

[–] TenderfootGungi@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Did they exclude medical facilities? Most hospitals have strict rules for staff.

About a year and a half late for anybody to actually care.

Until the next pandemic comes. Or COVID just flares up, as it appears to be doing.

Where I live, there were mandates but no one enforced it and no one cared. During the worst of the pandemic it was odd to see someone with a mask. Some stores would have a sign saying you would not be allowed in unless you had a mask. Then you get in and no one had a mask on, not even employees.

I wonder what it was like in Huntington Beach.
