Arrrr my fellow pirates, I wanted to install Starfield, but I seriously don't know how. I already downloaded a .rar file, but I don't know what else to do with it. I run Arch Linux.

I tried running it with lutris but that didn't work, I got an error saying I had a non compatible GPU (getting nms release day vibes lol)

In the end I added starfield.exe as a non steam game in steam, and forced proton under compatibility properties and it worked

In the case of Linux I strongly recommend that you never use installers or repacks, which usually have a high probability of failure with Wine in my experience.

I can't confirm right now because I haven't downloaded Starfield yet, but try to only use portable versions of games, like the ones Steamrip offers, where you just download a .zip and you're all set, just run the .exe in Wine and play as if it were Windows.

Although Starfield is currently not available on Steamrip, you can find a portable version of Starfield on Rutracker.

The only problem I have encountered using installers/repacks with Lutris is that they sometimes can't create the installation folder. Creating it manually in the .wine folder is the only workaround I have found.

Unpack the rar, mount the iso, run the executable.

so you’ve already got the .rar file, which is good, but you’ll need a way to extract the game files. i dont use arch, but theres probably a multitude of ways to extract the files.

Once thats done, you’ll need a way to run the executable. you can either: use windows (self explanatory) Use proton and steam: get steam, get proton up qt, get the latest proton GE version, add the .exe to steam as a game. then in the game page settings, go to properties and then compatibility. once there, choose a specific steam compatibility tool, and use whatever proton version you just downloaded. normally it should work, but linux is weird sometimes, and with a game this big, nothing is certain. you can also try lutris, but youll have to look for tutorial on yt or smth for that

I use a program called unrar to unpack .rars

unrar /path/to/.rar/

Then I run the installer .exe with Wine. Once that finishes I add it as a non-steam game and select the newest version of Proton. Sometimes I'll check protondb if the game doesn't work right away.
