for people wondering, it's the US embassy warning US citizens there may be an attack in russia. FTA:

The U.S. embassy in Russia warned that "extremists" had imminent plans for an attack in Moscow, hours after Russian security services said they had foiled a planned shooting at a synagogue by a cell from the Afghan arm of Islamic State.

The embassy, which has repeatedly urged all U.S. citizens to leave Russia immediately, gave no further details about the nature of the threat, but said people should avoid concerts and crowds and be aware of their surroundings.

"The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours," the embassy said on its website.

Many other embassies have done so too though. Local news here in Denmark speculate whether the attacks are planned by Putin to help him win the election by capturing the bad guys

yeah, the article noted others. but, i was confused as to who was warning what, so I shared what the article had to say. figured I won't be alone.

FWIW, I did find a few articles online about Islamic state turning to attacks on Russia, so, it could be Russia playing games, or it could be real. or it could be Russia playing games and tricking IS into a real action it then foils.

It was not the best headline (not your fault, obviously). I originally wondered if this had something to do with Ukraine.

For the people that are inevitably going to ask why we are issuing this warning to an enemy, this warning will serve as proof of a forewarning to the Russian citizens and that the attack could have been prevented. Whenever Putin took power, he used a series of staged apartment building explosions to unify support under the guise of terrorism. Russian citizens even found explosives planted on the building they were going to blow up next and there were pieces of equipment and markings used by the Russian intelligence agency on the explosives. The official response is that they were not real and it was going to be used for a training exercise....in the middle of a series of attacks using explosives on apartment buildings.

So the US intelligence community is trying to prevent Putin from being able to allow this attack on his people and use it to garner support based on fear and an affirmation that the Russian people are under attack by outside entities.
