I know what they mean, but: I run an immutable Linux distro on my phone that is maintained by Google. I'm sure more than 0.01% of Europe does the same.

I guess "FLOSS phone" doesn't have the same ring to it as "Linux phone"

But AOSP is open source? So that term wouldn't improve on the problem.
I think GNU phones or GNU-like phones is a nice way to put it.

Linux is a kernel and android uses the Linux kernel. So not itโ€™s not Gnu/Linux but it is definitely Linux.

Yeah it's Google/Linux

Why the popularity in Yemen? Weird laws or something?

Bad statistics? When the percentages are that low, the polling rates are probably trash, and the error bars are probably huge.

There were some really really cheap mobile phones made specifically for economically disadvantaged countries. India had a few as well.

Additionally Sanctions sometimes play a role - GApps don't work everywhere.

Weird that anyone would think statcounter could have numbers so precise as to make that meaningful. The (slightly) more interesting question is: Out of all the linux/android phones, how many of them have Google Play installed?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
