MODERATORS

Hey, FUCKER here. For the people who actually remember me, yes I'm still alive. If you're wondering why I stopped posting, it was a combination of things, but it was mostly caused by my deteriorating motivation to do anything recently. When I first started this community, I was always excited to hear people's funny thought on the random images I've uploaded. Hearing people's stories motivated me to keep growing this community to what it was. But like everything I touch, I was burnt out. I was (and kinda still) in a period of my life where I had no motivation to do anything in my life. I've stopped doing what I loved and started to regret the action I've done in the past. Because of that, I've stopped being active here and took a mental break for a while, hence the inactivity.

I've decided that I don't really wanna keep posting here anymore. I don't have the mental motivation to keep this up, so I've decided to make a proposition for the community.

I'm willing to let someone else manage this community while I'm gone. They will moderate and upload content to the community for me. If no one wants to take management, then I will shut down this community.

While I do think this sounds a bit harsh, I do think that this is necessary for this community. If someone doesn't actively moderate, then this community will turn into a generic /c/196 clone. This wont be a popular decision, but I think it's the best option we got.

Before I go, I just wanna say thank you to anyone who contributed to the community. From the commenters, to the posters, I'm glad we could make an interesting and unique community for Lemmy.

As my token of appreciation, I've linked my archive of posts from the original /r/internet_funeral subreddit for you guys to share. This is what I've been using for the past 7 months to post here, so I hope you enjoy it. :)

Thanks for everything

I'm very sad to hear that you've burned out and I hope it gets better for you. I'm still active on Lemmy and I'd love to manage the community while you're gone.

[–] fucker@lemmy.world 25 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm glad. I hope everything goes well for you! If you need anything, please message me.

[–] FQQD@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 23 points 5 months ago

I will manage the community as well as I can, using the guidelines you posted. Thank you for having created this nice community :))

Hey FUCKER, I wanted to say thanks for making this community and the posts that you made, it's one of my favorite little corners of the internet. I agree that it could easily turn into a 196 clone without a moderator.. there's a certain difference and uniqueness here from other places that's really hard to put a finger on. I can't take on moderation, but I'll be sad to see it go.

Even if you never come back to this site again, I hope you can find motivation and peace in the future, I'm rooting for you

[–] fucker@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago

Thank you. I might come back in the far future, but who knows really.

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 32 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well now I feel bad I didn't comment more before. Your cool posts are what kept me on lemmy, because this community did seem like a more focused/less generic 196. Hope you feel better and come back.

I'm glad you enjoyed the content. ☕

Good poster that wasn't obnoxious like the star trek spammers. You will be missed. Thank you.

This fucker

[–] hexadence@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

You prepared us for this. We are already wearing black. o7

Not so funny joke aside. I created my account on "reddit exodus" days, and thought that this place has neat potential. Now that enough time has passed and the migration craze has settled, I decided it is time to see what has grown. I have to say.. I am impressed. I was afraid that this place would be overrun by bots. It is ironic that on internet pages named after death, life has grown.

I feel that burning out sensation all too well too. I'm certain that things will get better again though! These motivational pits are always just there for a bit and then they go away again!

While I'd love to suggest myself for the role you are offering, the very specific nature of the images and things posted on here is really hard to replicate. Like at the current point my phone has 93.000 Images and Videos saved on it and yet I don't think I have anything like the stuff on here. It is just so incredibly equniqe and creative

[–] fucker@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Thank you for your kind words. When I first discovered about these images, I had a deep connection with them. They were always so unique, yet I've never seen nor flet anything like them before. I just to share what I liked to the Lemmy community.

Thanks for making this community, the content here is truly unique and it's been my favourite on Lemmy. I hope you find another hobby that's fun and interesting for you

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 12 points 5 months ago

I have loved this community since you started it, although I was mainly a silent lurker (sorry about that!). I loved the surrealist/absurdist slant as opposed to just garden variety memes easily found elsewhere. As much as I'd hate this community to close, I agree its Identity should be preserved, so I sincerely hope you find someone able to take over moderation.

I hope you're able to find motivation again, or at least recover from your burnout and start feeling a bit better soon. I don't know exactly what you're going through, but I know for a fact that your posts here have enriched the lives of many people. I hope you're able to take at least some solace in that.

Take care of yourself, and I hope to see you around again at some point.

o7 see you on the other side, FUCKER

[–] neurospice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

o7 thank you for your service. Burn out is very tricky to deal with (I've been/am there), I hope your circumstances improve and thanks for letting all of us know :)

This is one of my favourite communities, you've done an amazing job curating this.

Thanks FUCKER for creating and nurturing this weird little garden. Thank you for not letting this turn into r/surrealmemes or any other nameless repetitive meme hole. You will be missed, but you are more important than this community and you need to do what's best for you.

[–] itsmect@monero.town 11 points 5 months ago

While other communities were busy rebuilding their reddit versions, you created something unique and magical. Thank you for making the early days of lemmy special. I'm glad that someone stepped up to continue your legacy. Wish you all the best, take care.

[–] FollyDolly@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Hey man I loved seeing your posts, but I understand if you need to stop to take care of yourself. Thanks for making my days a little more surreal.

[–] flipthetube@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

Always appreciated your posts. Take care of yourself and hopefully the community is still kicking if and when you decide to pick it back up.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

I know that feel brother. Best of luck with whatever you do.

[–] LolaCat@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 months ago

This was my favorite Lemmy community, even if it does continue on it wouldn’t be the same without you. I wish you the best of luck on your mental heath journey.

So long Fucker, and thanks for all the fish :)

[–] Electric_Druid@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

[–] 2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 5 months ago

I don't think I commented here but I enjoyed everything you posted, so thanks for your posts. Take care, burnout sucks :(

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Good luck, and take care! Thanks for maintaining a unique community, hope you come back!

[–] Goodman@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 months ago

I love this community, such a unique vibe. Thanks for all the posts and all the best FUCKER hope you recover.

[–] i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk 5 points 5 months ago

Thank you for this community, the important thing is to take care of yourself. Speaking personally, I had a similar thing last year and it turned out to be depression, so you might want to seek a diagnosis in case it's not just burnout.

[–] TheDorkfromYork@lemm.ee 5 points 5 months ago

My favorite group. I hope we can maintain its character for some time.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for making it easier for me to ditch Reddit. Of all the fuckers out there, you're a real one

[–] GrappleHat@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago

It's been fun! Thanks for starting the community & for all of the posts. They are very unique and interesting! Be well!

[–] WoodenBleachers@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

This the only thing that keeps me on lemmy. I will happily moderate if no one else would like to. Please don’t shut it down

[–] fucker@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

I think @FQQD@lemmy.ohaa.xyz will do fine. The best thing you can do is keep posting content.

[–] leviathan@programming.dev 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've earned a lot of compliments and found good people at my workplace thanks to using your uploads as my computer's lock screen. Thank you so much for your work, and while I won't be up to the task myself I really hope to see this community survive, and for you to find peace wherever else.
