This "leak" brought to you by the AMD Marketing Department.

30% doesn't sound absurd. 300% would sound absurd. “AMD IPC gains for Zen 5 CPU jumping one generation?” Maybe.

[–] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

For an intel customer 30% IPC improvement (if it is true), and most likely on the same mainboards, must seem absurd.

Yeah, isn't that about what Zen 1 did vs the previous gen?

I usually expect about 15% give or take, so this is a little more than expected, but not absurd. Headlines these days...

Excluding Piledriver (?) to Zen, wouldn't 30% be the highest inter-generational IPC increase in Intel/AMD CPUs in at least 15 years? The article's original title also included quotes around "ABSURD", as the term is being re-used from the source's clickbait YouTube title lol.

Oh my... Last time I read pieces like this, the new architecture was called bulldozer.

[–] Thassodar@lemm.ee 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Hey! I lived through bulldozer! I rocked an 8350 until the Ryzen 7 1700! I'm hardcore!

AMD* for life!

I'm more interested in use of APUs like Strix Halo for machine learning for 16+ GB memory size. If only they would also start using HBM in-package...
