Maybe it's because I didn't look things up for meta strategies but this game was just too hard. An old issue of Nintendo Power was assigning awards to games and one I remember was "Harder Than College." F-Zero GX was given that. I was still in junior high.

I graduated college with a CS related degree. I still have not beaten this game. Nintendo Power was right.

GX is indeed obnoxiously hard, but I don't ever remember X being too bad at least for Grand Prix or other regular races. I don't remember ever beating Death Race in X, but I will say I remember it was one of those modes that was still fun to try over and over and improve at.
