A few examples include s*x questions on askreddit, "this" comments, nolife powermods, jokes being more frequent than actual answers

It's not bad, just a little unnecessary. When communicating verbally it's understandable, similar to using "errm", giving the person time to think of the next thing to say or as a way to interject into a conversation but with text you don't need that.
