Or maybe I haven't just seen this image yet? I've only gotten images where she seems to be wearing a grey jacket.

Worried how unusable this place will be if real spammers find their way here

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

DMs don't worry me that much, but botted content, upvotes and comments would kill the platform like any other.

Botted comments and admins not in the helm.

I'll admit, the thing that made me go from Kbin to Lemmy was seeing tons of spam on unmoderated places. (Not blaming the admin for not being able to manage the site in that particular case, they had more pressing issues.)

Yea, that’s the thing that scares me

[–] nonfuinoncuro@lemm.ee 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

this is why I'm ok staying small and never going mainstream, honestly I had hoped that for reddit pre 2010 but by mid 2010s it was already too far gone

Spam is only going to get worse anyway, just like bots spam on all forum, just by them using a specific forum engine

[–] coldsideofyourpillow@lemmy.cafe 21 points 14 hours ago

I expect the software to improve. The "fediverse chick" spam is the perfect opportunity to test countermeasures.

Perhaps a way to limit how fast new instances are able to post and tools to identify those causing spam

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

That won't stop anyone. Just spin up 50 instances and let them sit for a while until they're not so new anymore.

Then when you need one, grab one off the shelf that's been riping for a while.

It's only a bump when they get started.
