I thought I didn't like metal. A 91 year old Christopher Lee made me reevaluate that stance

I can actually understand him singing it

what you want to listen to is called power metal. they have amazing vocals and epic riffs evoking heroism and glory.

if you're interested in a journey, try Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno. it's like 9 songs in one. you can tell what it's about from the title.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a listen.

I feel like Redeemer of Souls by Judas Priest is a pretty epic album and well worth a listen

I like judas priest but they aren't exactly known for clean vocals. I'd recommend anything Dio instead for that particular aspect.

Except for the growls during Halls of Valhalla, I felt like I could understand Redeemer of Souls far better than any of their previous albums. They certainly aren't Dio clean...

yeah I'm not super versed in judas priest so I may be wrong, I just mostly know them for scream vocals (still super easy to understand tbf but screams nonetheless). iced earth has that too but in more specific parts; it's rarely prominent in songs.
