You didn't read my article. My critique is that the democratic party is not doing enough and too quick to capitulate. There are plenty of things they could be doing, and in some ways they have minimized harm on a state level, but it's not enough. One example I gave was that Joe Biden was happy to compromise in his executive order.

Additionally, I talk about the framing of transition as a decision between "parents, doctors, and their children" as something that inherently deprioritizes the self-actualization of trans children and trans people more broadly, as, historically and currently, parents and doctors have been some of the main figures capable of abusing trans people. I talk about my own abuse by doctors, being subjected to completely legal conversion therapy and the troubled teen industry.

Though I'm originally a trans refugee from a red state, I now live in a blue state and many of my trans friends have gone homeless as children and most have dealt with severe abuse from their parents. Even here, some of my friends have gone through conversion therapy as a minor, where it is technically supposed to be illegal. Democrats have not done enough to help trans children not just from hostile republican laws, but also from abusive doctors and parents. I encourage you to actually read my article and engage with it fully.

Your article is basically saying, “Sure, I poured gasoline everywhere and lit the match, but you didn’t grab the hose fast enough so it’s your fault the house burned down.”

No, Republicans are killing trans kids. Democrats are stuck with trying to push a centrist agenda while the Republicans cry out that they’re being too liberal.

And what’s your solution to the “parent and doctor” system? While imperfect, if you let teens transition without their parents’ consent, you’re opening a not insignificant number of them to violence in the home when the parents figure it out. Getting the parents on board is way safer than trying to cut them out, especially since so many trans people already end up homeless in adulthood, we don’t need to exacerbate the problem for teens.
