NewPipe is freer. GrayJay is proprietary.

On GitHub != free or open source. It's missing vital freedoms to qualify for free software, and it doesn't meet the open source definition as published by OSI.

It's source-available and that's it. It's about as free as Minecraft (as Mojang provides deobfuscation mappings to enable you to view the source unobfuscated)

The whole license is a problem, and there are some pretty nasty clauses.

The excuse for this is pretty weak too. As if malware distributors care about a pesky license.
