48 courses that are truly remade rather than copy-pasted in (support MK8 features) for $25 doesn't seem too bad to me.

[–] pathos@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, the amount of work that has gone into these for a one-time purchase of $25 is a pretty great deal.

My only complaint (other than I've always hated when they recycle maps from previous games) is that you need Internet connectivity to play these. That completely defeats the whole point of the Switch.

[–] kattenluik@feddit.nl 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You don't need internet connectivity to play these, unless you mean downloading them initially. I'm sure they'll make an updated physical with these maps in it at some point too.

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I definitely could not access them without Internet. This was after they had been downloaded and played. The error even said as much. Maybe they've changed that since? Hopefully...

Wait, what? Got a screenshot? Cos, let's face it, the switch has terrible wifi, and I'm frequently not on network and can play offline fine and have never had any pop up like that.

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I put it in airplane mode, voila: (sorry for the crummy phone capture). You can still play the default courses, but this is complete bullshit.

[–] StorminNorman@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I dunno how to prove it cos proving negatives is way too hard, but I just played a track offline no worries. You contacted support?

[–] csolisr@communities.azkware.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even if you purchase them directly instead of using the online pass? Guess I'll have to check it for myself

[–] Glemek@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even with the online pass you can go a while between checking in, I play mk8 on planes pretty regularly

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can play the original courses, but not the booster courses. Once you quit the game and lose your internet, no more dlc.

I suppose if you don't change games you might be fine. But it feels like a low blow on a system marketed for it's portability.

[–] Glemek@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I don't know what to tell you, I literally do it.

I turn the system fully off on the way to the airport, then boot it back up and play whatever I want, including the booster courses.

I just checked, and it let me start the game and load up the feather cup while in airplane mode.

You can't play them solo?

I'm pretty sure I have the initial free booster tracks and I was able to play them solo offline just like any other course. It has been awhile though, I could be wrong.

[–] Hotdogman@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I stand corrected. I didnt think ninendo ever dropped prices of games. Major ones that is

[–] MeaanBeaan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

They didn't. It's $25 for the 48 DLC courses. Base game is still $60 in the eshop.

[–] yiliu@informis.land 2 points 1 year ago

Nope, you're not corrected. The expansion tracks are $25, the game itself is still $60.
