Maybe you can setup a clone with different passwords and no real data? I don't thing your cautiousness is unreasonable.

If you want / need to go without hacs, you can use python to read data from the pi pins and get them into Home Assistant via mqtt This also allows for remote dht sensors with other pis / pi zero W..

Now if we had a federated image service that would be used by default to upload images, this would mitigate having the images on the lemmy servers :)

Not theirs. It is connected to a Dresden conbee ii

I don't know if you can find the product close to you, I include the link so you could get an image and the specs of what it's like :)
