It is a blessing for someone like me who had a lot of difficulties to stay away from reddit. Lemmy gives me a slow paced window of reddit, with RSS feeds taking up the rest of the free time. So in the end the time I spend is more focussed on my interests but driven by reputable sites instead of someone in reddit.

Captcha or recaptcha is good enough imo, no point in reinventing the wheel. Alternatively, split instructions in an email and on the website. For ex: Send email with What is the square of 3 (sent as an image for every word) And on the website Email + 25 = xxxxx
unfortunately it is whatsapp.. Had everyone move to signal, but it didn't last :(
I've abandoned reddit.. just hoping that them nsfw subreddits come over too..
