They are not related. Adams was doing more traditional political corruption - demanding $20k to meet with someone, secretly advocating for foreign governments, etc.
It's cool for people with lots of extra cash I guess. I like that 50% of profits go to the artists.
That said, I am certainly not one of those people with extra money to spend on wallpapers. Seems like we're not the target demographic.
Maybe that's part of this guy's problem here. His channel has a broader appeal than the app, so the people outside the app's target demographic got irritated.

I feel like it's just the opposite.
Try designing something without instructions or a template. You'll run into a thousand little issues you didn't realize needed to be considered.
That's true of software, sure. But it's also true if you want to make a wooden dresser without plans or build an rc airplane from scratch.
In my experience, things are rarely as simple as they first seem.
