Oooo I like this, thank you

I'd have to imagine it would.

If you post something to the public internet it will be indexed.

Guess I'm just this dense, thanks.

AI has the potential to enshittify what would be immersive worlds in video games. Nobody wants their crafted NPC dialogue turned into ChatGPT garbage. Your comment is just propaganda.

Yup. Anyone who believes our federal police force is any less corrupt than that of our neighbours to the south is deluded. We have many of the same problems, albeit some of them manifest slightly differently.

PC gaming's grown a ton since, in particular, 2016 when the 1000 series of nvidia cards released. I've seen all my gaming spaces become more and more PC oriented, with Nintendo Switch often serving as the accessory console to the PC.

PS5's flopped in terms of actually having anything interesting and unique, and Xbox fits nicely into the PC gaming space anyways.

This isn't a lemmy thing. This is you being behind the times and struggling to keep up.

I've been so surprised by this show haha

Episode 1 was just twist after twist, and now there seems to be, what, a magical girl or something?

Why's there so many different supernaturals intersecting? Is that going to be a major plot-point? Feels like a definite chekov's gun.

15 seconds in, there's unintentionally teleporting enemies

I'd like to hear opposing views on interesting, controversial topics. Not boring, non-controversially bad topics.

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, will begin charging new users $1 a year to access key features including the ability to tweet, reply, quote, repost, like, bookmark, and create lists, according to a source familiar with the matter. This change will go live today for new users in New Zealand and the Philippines.

Roughly 20 minutes after this story published, X’s Support account confirmed the details, writing that “this new test was developed to bolster our already successful efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity, while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount. It is not a profit driver.”

Starting today, we're testing a new program (Not A Bot) in New Zealand and the Philippines. New, unverified accounts will be required to sign up for a $1 annual subscription to be able to post & interact with other posts. Within this test, existing users are not affected.

And so far, subscription options have proven to be the main solution that works at scale. — Support (@Support) October 17, 2023

The company published the “Not-a-Bot Terms and Conditions” today outlining its plan for a paid subscription service that gives users certain abilities on their platform, like posting content and interacting with other users. This program is different from X Premium, which offers more features like “Undo” and “Edit” for posts for $8 a month. Given the company’s tumultuous reputation under Musk, some users have voiced their hesitancy to turn over their credit card info.

X owner Elon Musk has long floated the idea of charging users $1 for the platform. During a livestreamed conversation with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month, Musk said “It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots.”

Shortly after the announcement, Musk tweeted that you can “read for free, but $1/year to write.”

“It’s the only way to fight bots without blocking real users,” Musk wrote. “This won’t stop bots completely, but it will be 1000X harder to manipulate the platform.”

X CEO Linda Yaccarino was asked last month onstage at Vox’s Code Conference about how going to a full subscription model on X will affect revenue, something that is now going live to users today. Yaccarino answered at the time, “Did he say that or did he say he’s thinking about it?”

Hi everyone. We want to keep you informed and updated as we've been making progress with the ongoing server and site performance issues.

You may have noticed that badges have been a little slow to update since we released V5 yesterday. Don't worry. Right now, the server has automatically queued up a lot of work that will help us resolve the performance issues we've been seeing over the last few weeks. Badge updates are now handled in these queues too, and unfortunately some of the updates have been queued at the "back of the line". If you find that some of your badges are missing, they'll eventually arrive after waiting it out for a little while.

The work the server is doing right now is necessary for us to finally get over the hump. This will not be a regular occurrence. Because of the intensity of the work the server is doing in the background right now, you may notice certain site features are no longer visible. This is to ensure the server can get through its work as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for your understanding!

We are now starting to populate and maintain aggregated data for frequently called expensive queries. Soon we will be able to start using that aggregated data to alleviate much of the stress currently being experienced by the database server.

Bocchi the Rock! -Live-, a live-streamed program to commemorate the Bocchi the Rock! television anime's one-year anniversary, announced that the anime's compilation film project is actually two films. The first part will open next spring as previously announced, while the second part will open next summer. The program also debuted the films' teaser visual:

The anime adapts Aki Hamaji's four-panel manga Bocchi the Rock!, which follows Hitori "Bocchi-chan" ("Loner") Gotō, a lonely high school girl whose heart lies in her guitar. She does nothing every day except strum her guitar by herself at home. However, she happens one day to meet Nijika Ijichi, who is looking for a guitarist for her group named "Kessoku Band."

The television anime's main cast includes:

  • Yoshino Aoyama as Hitori "Bocchi-chan" ("Loner") Gotō
  • Sayumi Suzushiro as Nijika Ijichi
  • Saku Mizuno as Ryо̄ Yamada
  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Ikuyo Kita

Keiichirō Saitō (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. Regards) directed the television anime at CloverWorks. Erika Yoshida (Lupin III: Part IV)ˀsupervised and wrote the series scripts. Kerorira (animation director for Wonder Egg Priority) designed the characters.

The television anime premiered on the Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV channels on October 9, and it also ran on MRT Miyazaki Broadcasting, MBS, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, and AT-X. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it airs in Japan.

The anime's "Kessoku Band" with Ikumi Hasegawa (voice of Ikuyo Kita) on vocals performed the opening and ending songs. Singer-songwriter Ai Higuchi wrote the lyrics, and Otoha, member of the musical group 48foureight, composed the music for the opening song titled "Seishun Complex" (Youth Complex). The KANA-BOON band's vocalist and guitarist Maguro Taniguchi wrote the lyrics and composed the music for the ending song titled "Distortion!!"

Hamaji launched the manga in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in December 2017, and the series is ongoing.

I have a bunch of services on a home machine and I use cloudflare tunnels to access them on the WAN. My ISP locks down ports 80 and 443, and so tunnels were the most viable way for me to get various pages online easy; especially helped since it's easy to configure and free to boot.

But I've been seeing more people talk about it being privacy invasive, and while I'm probably gonna remain largely ignorant on why, I was wanting to know if there was an alternative to this that I can use?

The new voice of Mario has been revealed: Kevin Afghani is the actor behind Mario (and Luigi) in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo confirmed on Friday. Afghani replaces actor Charles Martinet, who provided Mario’s chipper wahoos and it’s-a-mes for more than 25 years.

Afghani announced his involvement in Super Mario Bros. Wonder on X, formerly known as Twitter, tweeting, “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!” Nintendo confirmed the role in an email to Polygon.

On his social media and personal website, Afghani describes himself as a “voice actor and big nerd.” He said he “decided to become a voice actor for a single reason; my absolute love for animation and video games. They are some of the most genuinely exciting forms of art that I have ever seen. Characters that exist only within the context of their media allow this art to transform into a beautifully immersive experience like no other. Whether that experience is fun, bubbly, dark, or moving, this art form is truly amazing and I absolutely had to become a part of it.”

Afghani’s IMDB credits include voice work on Genshin Impact (as Arnold) and in animated shorts for the YouTube channel Mashed. In other words, he’s a relative newcomer to the business of video game voice acting, despite his major new gig.

Nintendo announced in August that Martinet would no longer serve as the identifiable voice of Mario beginning with Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Martinet will still work with Nintendo in the role of “Mario Ambassador,” in which he will continue to “travel the world sharing the joy of Mario,” Nintendo said in a statement at the time.

Mario fans first noticed a change to the voices of Mario (and Wario) in trailers for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It! released this summer. Martinet, 67, had been the exaggerated Italian-flavored voice behind Mario since 1991, when he first started performing for Nintendo at trade shows. He went on to record the character’s voice, for the first time in a Nintendo game, in Super Mario 64, released in 1996. Since then, Martinet has been the voice of Mario in dozens of games, expanding his vocal range to include voices for Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Luigi, and Baby Mario.

Earlier this year, actor Chris Pratt voiced Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with Charlie Day providing the voice of his twin brother Luigi. Martinet cameoed in the Mario movie as Mario and Luigi’s father, and as an original character named Giuseppe.

Our latest update for Q3 2023 — now renamed the “X/Twitter Migration Report” — finds that Elon Musk’s rebranding of Twitter to “X,” as well as the ongoing struggles and controversies surrounding the platform, have had negative consequences for X/Twitter, which continues to experience a steady decline in usage and advertising revenue. We also found that Threads, after its initial burst of growth and subsequent decline, has emerged as a steady competitor to the X/Twitter platform. And the trends we’ve been identifying — particularly the continued emergence of open social protocols — are ongoing.

After Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter in November 2022, some high-profile Twitter users — as well as many low-profile ones — publicly announced that they were leaving the platform. The exodus has ebbed and flowed due to X’s new policies, user fees, mass layoffs of Trust and Safety teams, continuing technical issues, and Musk’s own behavior.

In December 2022, we produced our first Twitter Migration report, using the data available to us to estimate the size and scope of the phenomenon of users leaving Twitter for other platforms. We’re proud to present our latest quarterly report.

As we saw in past reports there continues to be a steady decline in the number of Twitter users as more and more users “quiet quit” Twitter for other platforms. Our Q2 2023 report found three additional migration patterns: a user migration and developer migration to other platforms, and a technology migration to open protocols undergirding them.
