Except that, in my several decades, literally no one ever said that. if someone did say that, they're ignorant or selling something.

I believe that is patented

Let us know when you start counting it in decades. Those lumps probably aren't anything bad, right?

I always have a tablet or an old phone lying around.

You got downvoted, but I agree. I think this was and is astroturfing. (It got re-posted today. https://slrpnk.net/post/13405801)

Did you really need to repost this after less than a month?

Is this astro-turfing?

[–] higgsboson@dubvee.org 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I'd disable that if I could. I'd much rather have no thumbnail than an animated one.

Some mowers are designed that way. Mine advertised "no oil changes", but really it means I have to add oil a couple times a year instead of draining it.

When you fight literal Nazis and still can't come away looking like the good guys.

Fuck them for these games. It's an abuse of their market position.

Does Google offer a phone number for me to contact them about problems with their half-assed products? I've tried lots of times to reach a human being, but never raised a response as a private citizen.

That's not what I consider negligible on my phone, which is already resource constrained. Yes, I have a problem with an app that intentionally wastes my valuable resources. I wouldn't care so much from my desktop, but I mostly just use a desktop client to do things I can't easily do on my mobile clients.

No big deal. It's not as if my participation is especially valuable. I would just participate less.

edit: my objection is obviously more in principal than it is practical, but it would hardly be the first time I walked away from software (or a network) on philosophical grounds.

Google has started automatically blocking emails sent by bulk senders who don't meet stricter spam thresholds and authenticate their messages as required by new guidelines to strengthen defenses against spam and phishing attacks.

As announced in October, the company now requires those who want to dispatch over 5,000 messages daily to Gmail accounts to set up SPF/DKIM and DMARC email authentication for their domains.
