As a Brit who misses the EU a lot they always did a lot right but are underappreciated by the people living in it.

Grabbed Mass Effect Legendary Edition on sale for £4.99 and having a blast. Completed the first game last night and now started on the second one. Runs like a dream, EA launcher didn't cause any issues (I loaded it in desktop mode the first time) and the game is as good as I remember from first time around.

The only issue I'm having is when I use the HDR calibration in game I wind up losing a bunch of detail in dark areas and the image overall is way too dark.

I've also picked up subnautica ready to give it a proper go at some point after picking it up and it not quite gripping me on game pass on desktop.

I've never been a Linux guy but recently I've switched to Pop!OS on my laptop and bought a Steam Deck. Other than a few teething issues with the laptop I've had a great experience and I wouldn't consider myself ridiculously tech savvy. I'd absolutely consider switching my gaming PC over but my worry is loss of performance and being unable to use my game pass games. I'd be super happy if I could switch my PC over in the next couple of years.

The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese is hung opposite the Mona Lisa and honestly was far more worth seeing as far as I'm concerned. It was also mostly ignored by people desperate to get their selfie with a postage stamp-sized painting for their social media.

Just picked up the Legendary Edition Mass Effect Trilogy for £4.99 to play on the Steam Deck. Read a few guides online which made it sound pretty complicated to get set up but actually just doing the initial load of the game in desktop mode and logging into EA there has meant it now works through the standard deck mode without a hitch. Great game for the deck and (touch wood) performance seems pretty solid.

I was at a random hotel in London for work and was wearing a pretty nice suit. There was a mirrored column near the door and nobody about so I was adjusting my jacket since I'd been wearing a backback. The girl who worked behind the reception (probably 23 and quite attractive, I'm 36) walked past and said "Hey, you look really good."

Absolutely made my day and I even excitedly told my girlfriend when I got home. It was possibly the only unprompted compliment from a stranger I've ever received.

You're joking right? I'm in the UK and every bugger going has a Merc or a BMW.

OOTL.... What revelation?

God, Planetside and Planetside 2 in their prime were my absolute jam. I was a reasonably active participant in an outfit called Libertas de Dominitas on Werner and even went to an outfit meetup in Manchester. There's never been anything else that quite comes close to Planetside.

I have literally no idea what "hexbear" and "tankies" are. I'd never even heard these words before being on Lemmy but they're all over the place on here.

I'm on the UK and taking paternity leave in December. By using some of my holiday allowance plus a Christmas shutdown I'm turning my 4 week paternity leave into 8 weeks off in total. It's hardly a holiday (seeing as we'll be lookin after a newborn and my other half will be recovering from a c-section/childbirth) but god-damn I am looking forward to two months of just focusing on mu family.

I'm currently playing Diablo IV (and having a blast with it) but finding one small gripe which I only think is going to get worse and probably stop me playing it completely in the long run.

My girlfriend is currently pregnant. This means in 6 months time we'll have a newborn. With this in mind I'm expecting to only be able to grab a few minutes at a time to game and even when I think I'll have longer I may end up jumping off at short notice. This means I'll almost certainly come to rely on games which I can pause. Unfortunately this isn't possible with Diablo IV since it requires an always online connection even though I'm essentially playing it as a single player game.

What are other people's thoughts?
