Although the White House has insisted that President Biden has the legal authority to take military action against the Houthis, several members of Congress have refuted its claims. At a Senate hearing in February, several senators called attention to the War Powers Resolution, which establishes that the president cannot continue hostilities for longer than 60 days without approval from Congress.

Regardless, Congress has failed to act, even now that the deadline has passed. March 12, the day that the White House was required to cease its military operations, “came, and went, in public silence,” as the Associated Press reported.

 

Any organization accused of spreading propaganda promoting the Russian invasion can be prosecuted in court. Websites registered in Russia are blocked in Ukraine, but not only that: as EL PAÍS has been able to verify, at least one Amnesty International report from 2022, which was harshly criticized by the Ukrainian authorities, cannot be viewed online from inside Ukraine.

Yurchishin stated on RBC that the possible closure of TikTok in the United States — for being a Chinese company that could violate national security — is a model to follow.

 

"My overall sense was that I really didn't learn anything in the briefings that I didn't regularly read in the New York Times or the Globe and Mail or the Toronto Star," he said.

"Listening to briefings on things that I think … were probably not actionable and … entirely known to us was not a good use of time and probably not a good use of resources."

The briefing note said that the SITE Task Force saw no evidence foreign countries were targeting Elections Canada or the electoral system. It also said that there was no evidence of foreign countries directly interfering in "the digital information ecosystems" around the 2019 election.
