Nicholas McGeehan, director at the UK-based human rights organisation FairSquare, said the working hours of the labourers at The Line were "way beyond what the international minimum standards permit".

"The reality is that workers all over Saudi Arabia are subject to deeply abusive and dangerous exploitation. The abuses are systematically happening across the country," McGeehan said.

Migrant workers make up three quarters of Saudi Arabia's workforce and are critical for the Vision 2030 projects.

Based on data released in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, the film reports that 21,000 foreign workers from the three countries have died since Vision 2030 was launched eight years ago in 2016.

Despite the reality carefully researched and documented by not only Amnesty International but by a preponderance of the world's human rights organizations, CNN employed language that carefully constructed a sympathetic narrative around the mental health of a soldier engaged in actions that the World Court has acknowledged as a plausible case of genocide.

Critics argue that CNN's story is emblematic of a broader trend of double standards within corporate media. For instance, the New York Times has reported on Israeli soldiers' "panic attacks" as newsworthy yet has not offered similar mental health coverage for Lebanese or Palestinian civilians who are being killed and injured in large numbers.

The federal government is poised to release their next-generation transit investment program, the Canada Public Transit Fund. It may surprise you to learn that not a single penny of this $30-billion program is allowed to go toward stopping transit service cuts. Since 2016, it has been the federal government's policy to limit the public transit funding it provides to building new subway or light rail infrastructure or buying new buses. It cannot be used to make existing transit more reliable by increasing service hours and the frequency of trains or buses. This is despite studies showing that these measures are the most important drivers of key outcomes like ridership growth and emissions reductions.

The penalty was part of a decision the tribunal issued in September that saw it side with the Competition Bureau, which accused Cineplex of misleading theatre-goers by not immediately presenting them with the full price of a movie ticket when they bought seats online.

Cineplex began charging an $1.50 online booking fee in June 2022 to many customers not enrolled in its CineClub subscription and Scene Plus loyalty programs, which saw the fee waived or dropped to $1, respectively. It's a practice known as drip pricing.
