Wow I hadnt heard of a single book there before this. Incredible how much you can read, your worst years are better than my best lol.

Ps. Id like to recommend Basti for you as an emtry from pakistan tho it looks like youre going alphabetically. Wouldve recommended 'patras ke mazameen' but that probably wont translate well. Also you get to add lemmy as a source of book recommendations.

  • Bag of bones: Made a post about this already.
  • Test Cricket By Jarrod Kimber: A history of the sport written by a great storyteller. Very digestable, the best book if youre a cricket fan.
  • Your face belongs to us: If you're on lemmy you likely care about your privacy and need to know about this. This is the emd of privacy.
  • God, Human, Animal, Machine: It's been the year of AI and this is a brilliant book to read with great history, philosophy and a personal touch. Very accessible too. (Discovered from the Ezra Klein podcast)
  • A dictionary of symbols by Juan Eduardo Cirlot: We all rely on symbolic expression, paeticularly in art. Reading emtries in this book as essays has improved the way I think about amd interpret art. It's an incredible tool if you find symbology important.
  • The last Mughal by William Dalrymple: I cannot recommend this enough. One of the most readable history books ever and based on an incredible time period that isn't talked about enough. Incredible individual stories. Really, it's a must read imo.

These are the important recommendations, read a lot of short stories this year and intend to post them on !shortstories@literature.cafe

Some books I haven't recommended since they weren't interesting enough and some were already talked about more than enough.

Issue is the upvote on the comment has also been federated. I can see the upvote (post deletion attemp). I only upvoted the comment from my main to check after i had deleted it.

And no I didnt post my password tho it was on my clipboard and I could've tapped it with my fat fingers.

Also, is this the community I should be posting lemmy issues on?

Comment deletion error. (literature.cafe)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by Lacanoodle@literature.cafe to c/fediverse@lemmy.world

I just mistakenly made a comment on my post on lemmy.world and while it shows deleted on jerboa (up to date app) I can see it on eternity and attempts at deleting say delete failed (not up to date) but more importantly I can view the comment from my main too.

Is this a federation issue thanks to 0.19, a pre existing federation issue or something else? This could be a serious issue if someone copy/pasted their password or smth by mistake (as I nearly did).

Exactly. Its a book with very a clear emotion and feel.

Some quotes from the book:

  • Humor is almost always anger with its make-up on.
  • The muses are ghosts, and sometimes they come uninvited.
  • I felt lonely and content at the same time. I believe that is a rare kind of happiness.
  • I see things, that's all. Write enough stories and every shadow on the floor looks like a footprint; every line in the dirt like a secret message.
  • A person can go along quite awhile if they get a good day every once and again

Its beautifully written.

I do not see how to tag for spoiler here so

SPOLIER ALERT

"Bag of Bones" delves deeply into the theme of grief as its protagonist, Mike Noonan, grapples with the sudden loss of his wife. The book explores Mike's emotional turmoil, guilt, and attempts to find solace. The supernatural elements, such as ghostly visions and eerie occurrences, serve as metaphors for the haunting impact of loss in the grieving process.

The book beautifully portrays the ways in which grief can unravel a person's life, affecting relationships and one's sense of self. Through Mike's journey, you can witness the complexities of mourning, as he navigates the painful process of letting go while also uncovering the secrets of his wife's past. Bag of Bones offers a poignant exploration of how grief can be all-encompassing, shaping characters and driving them to confront both personal demons and external mysteries.

This book made me cry ... repeatedly. And I hadn't cried in years. It's not one of King's major works. Neither is it particularly a fan favourite nor is it a critical success, but it's possibly my favorite King book.

I've never used one but it struck me as odd that people would use a seperate device for smth so easily done on your phone.

Is there smth special about the hardware? Is it better somehow?
