Flavors of markdown are slightly different, but they share a lot in common. Also Boost has slightly different rendering than the Lemmy website UI, specifically with the spoiler tags

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 10 points 6 days ago (8 children)

the language is called "Markdown", same as what Reddit and Discord use, as well as many others

yea that sounds nasty

just don't patent anything, other companies build a product around an unpatented idea, then you patent it and sue them? now their entire product is ruined??

this makes no sense, that would mean the optimal play is to not patent anything until someone else starts doing it

When my Lemmy instance is down (which is very rare, much more stable than Reddit), I just browse via a different instance!

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 2 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure, you should definitely report that as a bug on the GitHub though

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I think it was fixed in 0.18.5 yea, I guess there could be some system to trust other moderators from other instances but then it's basically the same as it is now lol, where trusting==appointing moderators, really the same thing

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

defederation is an admin action not a moderator action, and there are much fewer admins than there are moderators, so the workload would be a concern

Doesn't your suggestion mean that a user from a small instance or their own instance can make a bunch of garbage posts (or even illegal posts) and then a moderator from every single other instance will have to delete their posts separately? That's a ton of repeated work, and really opens up Lemmy to abuse.

Currently, communities are created and hosted on a single instance, and are moderated by moderators on that instance.

You can be a moderator of communities on different instances, my account here on programming.dev is a moderator of communities on other instances such as lemmy.ml

yea tlnet is perfect, thank you! subscribed

It's a great feature while browsing All/Subscribed/Local, but some people (including me) seem to think this can be confusing/annoying while browsing a specific community directly.

Any thoughts on this?

Which is your favorite part of the game? I always remember Benny's part the most.

Then all the upgrade instructions of backup->update->import backups go away and all you need to do is restart the docker container. (still keep backups though!)

Since that pull request was merged, this will simplify future updates like 0.19.6 or 0.20.0

Halo 2 is a video game released in 2004. It is the sequel to Halo 1, a game made by Bungie and released in 2001. Halo follows the story of John Halo (master chief to his friends) as he and his pal arbiter do something, I dont know. There are many shadows such as Stencil shadows and Baked shadows. The Covenant want to steal the Oven John Halo uses to Bake his shadows and it is up to the UNSC to stop them. Halo Spartans Didact 343 industries Halo Infinite Halo 7 Playstation Xbox and other things that may help this video get seen

2004 was 20 years ago, that counts as retro, right?

The Black and White series was originally hyped by the always passionate Peter Molyneux. Back in 2001, the first Black and White was being hyped up to be the greatest game of all time. Since then, a sequel was released in 2005 called Black and White 2, which was even more forgotten. Was this a worthy sequel to step the genre forward, or did the series once again fall short of expectations?

Once upon a time, in a galaxy not so far away (this one, in fact), a few internet rebels decided that they were tired of the corporate overlords controlling their online lives. Thus, the fediverse was born — an attempt to wrest control of microblogging services, such as Twitter and its ilk, away from centralized powers and into the hands of the people.

Isn't this what upvotes and downvotes are for? Do they only want posts about billionaire mega corporations? 10% is a really strict cutoff for people that make things as a hobby. What else am I gonna post when everything else is already posted instantly? I can't post to r/pcgaming for the same reason.

I'm not trying to sell anything, it's a free download, my videos aren't monetized, I don't accept donations. I'm an active commenter too even if I don't make many posts there. My posts get lots of upvotes with good ratios, and I space out my posts so they're not frequent at all.

Also the fact that they count it site-wide instead of sub-wide means if you create your own sub or use an appropriate niche sub, you're gonna screw up your own ratio.

SmashManiac originally ran the site but recently converted it into an open source project. Here's the announcement

You can view the new open source version of the site here

It's still early in the transition but I've converted it into a Jekyll build based on yaml data. Unfortunately I've been mostly working alone, we'd love some more contributors! If you know any of: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jekyll, or Liquid templates then check out the Github and maybe submit some pull requests to help us out

We'd like to keep the project simple, but here's our issues list for ideas

something that didn't get mentioned in the announcement but I think is nice, the Chat view has been fixed!

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1639#issuecomment-2172090390

I believe it was fixed here https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/pull/2480

it even allows sorting in either direction, you can do Chat view with New or Old sort!

In a universe where bagels meet bars, the BAGEL engine has been perfectly toasted, and the ScummVM team is now ready to serve a slice of The Space Bar nostalgia. No, it’s not the key on your keyboard. Rather, it’s a detective story set on a distant planet. Important data has been stolen, and the perpetrator is a shape-shifter laying low in a spaceport dive bar until he can flee off-planet. You play a hard-boiled detective who has the skill to psychically visit bar patrons’ memories to gather clues and narrow down suspects.

This is thanks to the kind people at ZOOM Platform, who provided us with the original game sources to work with. Help us test the game by grabbing a daily build. Read through our testing guidelines. The game features a lot of options to chat around with bar patrons’ and do various actions in the different flashbacks. So we really need people to spend time experimenting and make sure everything works correctly. And please take some screenshots along the way.

If you don’t own The Space Bar, you can try one of the free demos or purchase it digitally from the ZOOM Platform. Testing is also available on Steam via a beta branch, check the Steam announcement for more details.

Now, good luck, and fingers crossed you can find the perp. Otherwise, your bureau chief will have you getting up close and personal with toilet duties for the rest of your career. Oh, and PS: The viewpoints of different aliens differ. For the Bartender, who has segmented eyes, even the original developers felt it was difficult and left in a cheat key of ScrollLock to switch back to a single viewpoint. Feel free to use it if, at any point, the flashback becomes too much for you :)
