Ok so this one bugs me, older articles are occasionally in archives but for newer ones 12ft ladder etc dont really work anymore.

Anyone have a workaround?

Bypass Paywall Clean D extension

https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-chrome-clean

This is the project and what I use for Chrome. I'm not sure what the benefits of "Clean D" is, but this works.

Everyone likes a Clean D.

Just checked out the New Yorker site to see if my setup works. No paywalls encountered.

Use Ublock Origin with the Bypass Paywalls Clean List put in as a custom filter. Having NoScript extension sometimes prevents paywalls from showing as well.

Works on Desktop and Android (for Android, use Firefox Developer Edition or Mull browser as you can install Ublock/NoScript).

Strangely only works for me with a VPN. Without the VPN I get an endless Captcha loop.

You’re probably using cloudflare as your dns?

Yes. Now that you mentioned it, I remember a post about the archive.ph people being dicks and Cloudflare not supporting their dickery.

Won't work for every article but I just want to shout out !nyt_gift_articles@sopuli.xyz

Edit: oh, new yorker, not new york times. Ah well, still a resource worth sharing.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 months ago

Firefox Focus on Android - just keep deleting history.

[–] AdellcomdoisL@beehaw.org 2 points 10 months ago

The Wayback Machine usually works for me

Someone told here before if you want to get mainstream free news check the tor sites of them. Good tip BTW.

Have you tried using reader mode in Firefox? Or did they fix that one? Still works for me on other sites like New York Times.

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

That allows like 5-6 paragraphs not the entire article
